Too little power

this is the first forum I have ever heard something like this mentioned. Every other one there are plenty of educated people that will say the same thing, distortion kills speakers. And a clipped signal causes distortion. I run my system at full all the time, and it's never a clipped or distorted signal.

The only way this is true is if the amps are perfectly matched to the subs/speakers. Setting your gains to 1kw with a clean signal on a sub that handles 1kw, then sending a clipped signal will raise the area under the curve (RMS) above the thermal power handling of the sub

It is the power that kills the sub, not the distortion itself.

Power in audio applications is one of the most misunderstood concepts by consumers. The first hint is when people refer to something as "RMS power" or "RMS Watts". //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

If you believe that clipping or distortion damages a speaker, then you have to ask yourself: what is it (specifically) about these situations that damages the speaker? What is actually causing the damage?

Must not be on many forums....because I thought this was well understood.

And they would be wrong.

It's not a hard conclusion to test. Send a 50w fully clipped signal to a high power handling sub, like you BL's.

Report back with your findings.
