To sum it up... $200 and under comp selection.

The new CDT CL62 - are only 169 and I know there a 15% discount somewhere around the bend so that puts you around the 142 mark...way cheaper than the Type X and sound just as good. Also just to update everyone the new CL62s have:

Crossover: 24 dB. Phase Perfect 2-Way SatNet-480

Built-in Image enhancement tweeter design

Tweeter: TW-25S 1" silk twtr - Yes the TW25 tweeter!

Power Handling: 160 watt RMS

100Hz high-pass

Frequency Response: 60-20kHz

Sensitivity: 92.3 dB

Impedance: 4Ohm

Surface & Flush mount tweeter

Oh and we have thrown over 200 watts a side at these and they take it pretty good!

I have, and I would say it would be between the Crystals and CDTs. The ADS was just a little muddy for my liking in the midrange. The crystals do have a very strong midbass to them though. But both are so close its not funny...just comes down to how harsh or melow you like your tweets. You could always buy one set and sell it back on here, then buy the other, then decide which you like.

humm.... I love the midbass and overall sound I get from my CDT I have the CL-61 .....560I crossover and the DRT-25 tweets //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

I *really* like the Peerless Definition components. I installed a set in a friends car powered on a Sundown SAX-100.2 and they sound wonderful for the price. I compare them favorably to the JL Audio XR set that I used to own, for way less money.

I'd love to hear a more thorough review of these. I find them very tempting, give Peerless' reputation and the price tag. They look great, but it seems no one uses them. Think you can manage a full write-up? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Hmmm... It's not my car so it would be hard to do a really thorough write-up since I don't ride with them every day.

I can tell you that the midbass output was VERY good with properly deadened doors. Better than my old JL XR component set, but not as strong as an Adire Koda 6.5", Tang Band 6.5" mini-woofer, or the Ascendant 6.5". However, the midbass is very balanced with the sound of the set... I would have NO problem running this set midbass-wise if I had a budget under $200 for a component set.

Midrange is everything you can expect out of a set under $200 in price. In fact, it was 90% as good as the midrange from my XR component set for way less money. I would say that for under $200 for a pre-fab set you would have a hard time beating these... they easily beat out the Ascendant Audio 6.5" in midrange detail and clarity. I didn't care for the Ascendant drivers over 500 Hz.

The tweeter does an excellent job as well. I set them to -3dB and mounted them in the A-Pillar firing at an angle towards the windshield. I have used this setup before in my own vehicle when I drove a Firebird and I really like the way it works out.

I was a little worried since this way a 2-way and the Firebird used a 5khZ crossover with a 3-way system to avoid much separation... but I was suprised to find that it worked out VERY well and the stage is darn good for not using kick panels or time alignment of any kind.

Tweeter is not harsh the way I set it up... beating the JL XR in this area. Although it has a LITTLE less detail, as you would expect from a softer dome. Again, I would put this tweeter up against anything else in it's price range.

Keep in mind that this setup had the following:

1) 40 ft^2 of deadener between the two doors

2) Closed Cell Neoprene behind the midrange drivers

3) A-Pillar Mounted Tweeters, carefully angled

4) More than sufficient power from a Sundown SAX-100.2

I hope that helps. I was very impressed and my friend can't stop talking about how great they sound every time we talk about his system //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
