mine was idling @800 earlier today...

u realize the LC doesnt turn on until like 600-650rpm?

just a question, to all the people that have had HO alternator and have them what voltage do you stay in idle and reving? for some strange reason my HO alternator 150 amp stays at 12.6 idle WITHOUT any music on etc??? that means that my battery is NOT getting charged when idle and system on, honestly i expected this thing to keep me like at 14.4 and NEVER under 13.8(around that) but i see thats not the case? you guys had this? oh big 3 has been done.

Some shitty alt shops will sell you a high output alt that needs a certain rpm before it will actually start to work, factroy alts are made to able to put out a reaonable voltage at idle.

A good alternator shop would have understood your needs and sold you an HO alt that would still have decent output at idle.

One option is to put a smaller pulley on the alt so it spins at a higher RMP at idle, this will shorten the life of the alternator a little though.

I once was ripped off in the same exact manner, the alt would put out 180 amps at 2000 RPM(14.4v) but have around 35 amps at idle(11.5v), I tried the smaller pulley with limited success, the belt would slip because i only had a belt tensioner that didn't have enough tension to get the belt to grip.

The first thing to check when buying a H.O. alt is the idling output.

well nathan said if i can get mine to idle at 600-650 it would put out about 100amps, and then @2000rpms it would do full 200a

well guys i bought my alternator from mralternator.com and im pissed off to tell you guys the truth, i think im gona take it to an alternator shop see what they tell me.
