Time for a new amp?

So I have a zx1500.1 amp for my two 12" L7s and when I turn it up, it seems at some frequencies to sound kinda distorted. Are my subs being pushed too hard? I'm not turning it like all the way up, and my bass knob is only half way up. Or is it my amp is being pushed too hard? I'm wondering if I got another 1500.1 amp would the bass be cleaner, or will those amps be too much for the subs?

That amp should be perfect for those subs, I had the same setup a while back. Could it be a problem with the enclosure? And imo kicker square subs sound horrible in the first place so it might just be the subs.

Boost is not on. As far as the enclosure, are you suggesting it be too small? I have it under the back seat in my truck, so that is entirely possible. I raised my seat 2" for the box, unfortunatley I don't know how many sf each sub has.

It's a sealed box. I imagine the box is within Kicker's suggested size because when I measured the space unde the seat, I calculated it to be about 1.25 cubic feet each. I didn't build the box myself but it looked like highly quality. I was just hopin it would be a simple fix //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.
