Tight 8-10" with great SQ

Audiopulse Revo 10" dual 2ohm rated @ 1500 watts rms. $280 plus shipping. Picture in my avatar. Great for sealed and small enclosure.
1500 RMS? That's a big *****! Thanks for the input, I'll check these out too. So far everything I'm reading on Audiopulse is pretty good.

I was always under the impression that the smaller woofers were a little tighter. Then again, my knowledge is a little more old school. It seems things have changed quite a bit since I was installing 5 or so years ago.
silly old timer and your outdated ideas.

If you were closer id give ya demo with some avenged sevenfold you would be pretty suprised

Hah, I used to live in Cali too. What a shame the military sent my *** out here. I listen to A7X a lot, so I'm looking for woofers that perform well with that style of music.

goto an audio shop and give em a demo. You would be suprised by how good there whole line sounds. Even the idmax was incredibly accurate and pretty freakin loud. It was my fav sub to date. But the idq does seem to be a bit more accuate just not as loud and doesnt need crap for power to get going. Like i said earlier im giving it 125wrms. With gains set moderatly(dont have my dmm)

Anywho go give em a listen

The HO is probably a better candidate. Yes the HF has a lower inductance (which IMO is something that is preferred) but a trade off is lower power handling and larger enclosure requirements. The HO 10" works REALLY well in a .7 cube ported box tuned around 30hz. Sounds great and has some output if you need it.

Here's my thinking on the topic. It's much more likely that Joe Schmoe, with little audio knowledge, can find a pre-fab enclosure that more closely matches the recommended size of a 10" driver, than a 15" driver. 15" pre-fab enclosures usually aren't built large enough, which will lead to a very peak response and a weak low end.

Over the years you've probably heard a setup or two like this, and now you're in the mind set that larger speakers sound worse than smaller speakers, which isn't true.

Back on topic now. My music tastes are similar to yours, but I probably listen to Metal about 98% of the time. I've finally settled on the Type X as my subwoofer, but prior to that I was running a pair of the Dayton HO 10s in a ported enclosure. Output was way too much for me, but if I kept the level down, they really are fantastic speakers.

I'll see what I can do. Got a bunch of shop around here, but none of them have any idea who ID, DD, eD, or even MA are.

oh boy

Not to surprised tho.

Just buy a 10 used and give ti a try. U can find em used for 80-150bux. I got my 15 for 85shipped. Just keep your eyes pilled and if i see one ill the link your way.

Incriminator Audio Flatlyne. You want SQ, get one of the best. If Andy Jones (who is a pretty famous SQ competitor) says it's the truth, I'd tend to take his word for it.

Those Flatlynes do look pretty nice. I think right now it's between 1 Flatlyne 10" or 2 ID8s. If I go with the Flatlyne I would have to go with a different amp. I have an Eclipse XA1000 from a previous system that I was looking to use on this one. The output at 2 ohms is good for two ID8s (if I use a very conservative setting), but it's roughly 250 watts less than I would need for a 10" Flatylne. I'll have to do a little more research to make my decision. The price difference (not having to buy another amp) is pushing me toward the ID8s. Thanks for the input man!

even the JL8W3 does well in their new small ported enclosures. about $230shipped online and includes sub, enclosure, and grille. that little 8 off of 250-300rms definitely puts many 10's to shame

surprised no one here shows Boston Acoustic subs some love
I'm actually a huge Boston fan. Memphis as well for that matter. As I said in an earlier reply, it's been 5 or so years since I was installing so for all I know they **** now by comparison. Just trying to get the feel of what's out there. 5 years can mean a lot in car audio.. you know.. Fosgate could go to shit, Alpine could be pimped around to 15 different retailers and create two new lines, Kicker could come out with a sub shaped like a square, etc.

I am, however, considering Boston for the rear speakers. I've always been very impressed by the mid-bass you find in Boston's speakers, and I'd like to bring that out a little bit. Then I'm thinking Kappa Perfect components in the front. Who knows.

Well I did some research and actually decided to go with a single Dayton HF 8" powered by my Eclipse XA1000. All the reviews I've read seem to highlight exactly what I'm looking for (very tight response and dynamic range) and since I just want something to fill up the sound one 8" should be enough. Thanks to everyone for their input and advice!
