Tight 8-10" with great SQ

Hey all,

It's been years since I posted on here, but it appears this forum has kept up pretty well. I bought a 2005 Jaguar X-Type about 1 1/2 years ago and I've been debating whether or not I care to do a system in it. I finally decided to bite the bullet and do it.

I already have preferences for the majority of the system, but I'm pretty up in the air when it comes to subwoofer choice. I tried searching but I can't find anything totally relevant to my question (plus, I'm just not going to sift through 300 threads). I'm looking to go with a sub setup that's very crisp and has great sound quality. I'm considering 8" to 10" in size, and haven't decided on using 1 or 2 subs yet. My listening preferences are roughly: 30% Mainstream Rock/30% Heavy Metal/20% Classic Rock/15% Blues/5% Other. I'm really concerned with finding a subwoofer that is very tight and can keep up with the double bass. When I say keep up I mean I want to hear a clear separation between each bass kick, and not a slurred mess of thumps. Dynamic range is important, but my personal preference leans more toward the sub's ability to reproduce a series of fast beats. Budget really isn't a huge concern for me, but I don't want to get ridiculous with it. I'm not extremely well informed when it comes to 8" woofers, so I figured I'd throw this out there and see what I got back. Bring on the opinions!

(and thanks in advance)

Enclosure size isn't a huge problem, but added trunk space is always good //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Would you say just build sealed to factory sub specs, or is there a better setup for the ID8?

I'll definitely have to toy with WinISD a little in this one. I'm by no means the enclosure guru, but I was always under the impression that a sealed box would yield the "tighter" sound a little better than a ported box. Please correct me if I'm wrong on that. Output isn't a big deal for me at all. I prefer to have my subs simply give my music a full sound as opposed to just having a powerful output. Either way, I really appreciate the help.

if you know exactly how much room you have to work with and take some pics of your trunk and what the rest of your system is made up of you could go over to the ID forum and see if matt or eric could design you a box for your situation.
