I have a diamond audio d6 1000.2 and a jl audio 18w6. Gonna wire sub to 12 ohm then bridge the amp so each channel will see 6 ohm. The sub is 500w rms not really worried about it getting full power right now because im getting different subs but just wondering how the amp and sub will handle it.Any thoughts thanks.

I would just series wire it. After a little rise, I highly doubt you'll be far enough under (if you even end up under) 4 ohms for it to matter. And just turn the amp down if you are worried about it overpowering the sub.

well the amp will always love it and as far as the sub goes as long as the amp does not produce more power then the sub rms's at with that ohm load then the sub to will be fine just don't try to force the amp to produce more then it's capable of and you won't clip the signal. running at higher impedance's will never damage anything on the other hand running them to low will smoke an amp fast!

He should give the parallel a try, just to see if it's good enough for him. ....but if it's 1000 at 4 ohms, i can't imagine he's going to see more than 300 watts at 12. I really don't think it's going to end up being a problem if he does what I said above.

btw, op, wired parallel to one channel is an option as well.

I don't know the specs on the amp but from now on if a manufacturer say's it's x ohms stable I will be sticking with it, I tried from 2ohms to 1ohm and even being set to do less then rated at 2 ohm it still caught fire at 1ohm and I'm now currently trying to find a new amp.

ewwwww. I don't blame you. i guess i shoulda asked how his electrical was before suggesting that, as well.

you been running that system on only one batt and stock alt for a while now tho. might have been been a slower death than you realize.

edit: I lol's at the sig...

Thing is I monitor my voltage constantly and never let it drop below 11.8 at a hard peak and when she went it was at 13.6v on the dot I looked at that as I spun around to see where all the smoke was coming from.

Thing is my voltage was at 13.6 when it happened and the thing didn't quit playing or smoking until I cut power to it!

yeah i was thinking about running it off of one cannel at 3 ohm (my dmm reads 3.7 at the box terminal)

to get 2000 clean watts at 12 volts, you would require 166 amps. Even at 14 volts its 143 amp. If you were playing it full tilt for more than a few minutes at a time something had to give.

*I think you can get away with 2000 rms on a decnt stock alt, btw, but you need more than 1 battery as a buffer.
