Thoughts on using sand as a filler in an enclosure.

Ok, here is what I want to do. I have two mtx thunder 6000 12" subs. I want to wire them in a custom built enclosure (I'm making this) and then make one side of the enclosure either 3/4" or 1" plexiglass for a window. Heres the trick. I want to make an enclosure that is about 2- 2 1/2 time the size that mtx recommends. The enclosure will be very tall and narrow. I want to fill the extra volume up with sand. I've heard of this being done before. It is supposed to completely deaden the enclosure and prevent rattles from occuring. This happens because the sand is really absorbant because of its mass. ANy thoughts?

Hmm... I'm not sure if it would. I think the woofers would be about 2 feet away from the sand. I could also make a barrier with speaker grill cloth to prevent any sand from getting in. In fact, i think i will do that. thanks for the advice.
