I changed some of my equipment out , and it gave me some new listening perspectives and opinions based on the experience , so I thought I'd share my thoughts ....
I switched my Alpine CDA-7998 for the Clarion DRZ9255 , and that's a pretty big move for me , considering I've used Alpine HU's exclusively for 5 years now..... Here's what I hear : The bass is MUCH improved with the Clarion and the mids and highs are more airy and transparent.... The Alpine had a more foreward and dynamic sounding midrange. While the SQ is better with the Clarion , the Alpine was very close , and considering you can get the Alpine for about $250 on E-Bay , it's still a steal. The Clarion is MUCH more difficult to adjust and navigate the settings , but the EQ allows for much more adjustment. The Alpine's X-overs had more adjustability , but the time delay was also harder to use ..... Since the Clarion is still breaking in , I'm quite sure it will improve even more , and end up REALLY being awesome in the SQ dept .....
Lastly , I owned an Alpine 20th anniversary 7909 , and it was still EASILY the best sounding CD Player I've ever heard in a car .... If Alpine ever brings it back out , but with time alignment , x-over , and eq .... it WILL rule all in my opinion.
Next I upgraded my Diamond Audio D5 amps , for Diamond Audio D7 amps .... and the things I noticed the most is :
#1 - The D7 is easily the best sounding car amp I've heard ( even better than the Zapco Competition and Audisons I owned : just as dynamic , powerful , and detailed as those , but smoother and more transparent )
#2 - The D7 made me realize just how good the D5's really are !!! They sound very similiar , and that's a good thing considering the D5's are *****d out VERY cheaply , both on Ebay and used...... I place the D5 amps very close to the Zapco amps , at a fraction of the price , making them in my opinion , the steal of the mobile audio industry.....
Hope this helps someone......
