Though I love the P880 I miss my Alpine for this one semi-stupid reason

One thing is driving me nuts. When I had the Alpine and was playing a CD the antenna would lower automatically. This was perfect because i am a lazy sob that drives my car through the car wash more often than not. With my Pioneer no matter whether I am listening to CD or ipod the antenna doenot lower until you power the unit down. Am I the only one that misses this feature. From your experiences does the Pioneer Z1 or AVN5435 or AVN5500 or AVN6600 remedy this.

If it were me, I rather have it that way. Switching to radio doesn't have the static since the antenna is already up.

I only listen to talk radio occasionally the slight hiss isn't much of a problem besides the antenna in my QX4 rockets itself up when activated. For me this is something I want back in my new HU. If I can't get it, fine. But, if I can, it can be a deciding factor.

Did that in a friend's Mercedes...ran a toggle switch to control the antenna. But he needed it because the stock wiring was ganked from the previous owner.

If I were you, I'd just remember to turn the unit off when going through a car wash...do you get it washed often enough that it's a major issue?

Well, the thing is, I drive through the automated washes and I would like to have music while I sit there and do nothing but wait to be pulled through. With the Alpine I had grown accustomed to having my music without having to do anything special while my car was washed. I might try a toggle if all else fails but if any of the HU above offer the feature I would definately be swayed. I am pretty sure the w200 does it but I do not want to deal with the removeable Blackbird for nav and the H701 for tuning if I do not have to. Simply put this could help me choose between the Eclipse and Pioneer. The 0.5 inches of screen are not that big of a deal to me.

incredible thread, I am experiencing the same thing with my Pioneer 6900ub in my QX4.

I guess i'll have to toggle switch it, but ****, even the OEM radio would drop the antenna when listening to a CD. QX4 antenna shakes in the wind and gets annoying.

I never actually did any thing about it. I still annoys me. My plan was to go to DVD/Nav setup in short order, but I have not done that either. Update when you install your toggle switch.

Man I just can't believe Pioneer did this....

I also have engine whine. I read about Pioneer bad internal ground. Do you have any engine whine with your Pioneer equipped QX4??

I get hellacious noise from the dual band VHF/UHF whip on the roof, the loading coil likes to whistle at around 65mph. Doesn't bother me much because I usually have music on that covers it up anyway.

Surprisingly, the 9 foot whip on the back doesn't make much noise at all.

So... you sure you didn't hook it up to the blue/white wire, instead of the blue wire?
