Those of you with Viper1200.1's

That's exactly the point. If it reads 0 then it's being grounded somewhere along the line. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Ya, but where do you put the second lead? If you have one lead on the power wire you have to have the other one somewhere else...

You leave the negative alone. If you have a short on the power then it will ground out the postive connection, thus no negative connection is required.

No...a multimeter measures resistance from one lead to the other using it's 9v battery, if you do not touch that second lead to something you will read OL.

How do you determine a short?
A short inside the amp or outside the amp? If outside, you will not get voltage at the amp...

Edit: you'll also blow your power wires fuse pretty quick, because there is a very low amount of resistance if there is a short circuit, meaning lots of current flow and in effect, a blown fuse, this, is why you should put your fuse close to your battery, so you don't start a fire:).

So if someone was thinking they were getting a short outside the amp and they took a multimeter and put the postive lead on the power cable and the black multimeter to ground it should register 0 volts?

Exactly //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif , and they'd have a blown power wire fuse.
