when you set the balance and fade on a HU, what does it do? does it decrease the signal on 1 end while increasing on the opposite. or does it only decrease 1 end?

Normally only decreases one side. Basically just an attenuator.

im pretty sure it just decreases the side that you fade away from. I have never noticed a boost in volume on the side that I fade to.

normally I drive with the balace one notch to the right, it evens things up a little bit. By myself, I drive with the fade all the way to the front.
