Third try in joining to military. Need pointers!

Ever since I was a child I used to dress up and play war. My favoriye toys were G.I. Joes. I always wanted to join the Army or the Marines. I had my first chance at the age of 19 but being dumb and stupid I got a D.U.I right before I joined. I then tried again when the Iraq war started but the Army considered a D.U.I. a serious offence and I would need teach school or college to join but having children prevented me. I am 27 years old now and I think this is my last opportunity to join. I've been out of school for ten years and I don't think I can pass the written exam. I have never had any run in with the law as a child except the D.U.I and it has been over 7 years so I don't think I will have a problem. I'm just afraid I won't pass the math exam and that scares me. I do have what it takes to be a soilder and all the political talk about needing more soilders I think it's bullsh!t! I'm willing to fight and support my rights and country no matter what it takes. If I do not pass the test I will go to school for a year and try agin if thats what the recruiter wants but why not take me now? I have no disabilities? I'm not over the edge. Has things change in recruiting since the last 5 years? Is there a chance I can make it with out college? I don't know. All I know is I have an appointment this Friday to take a test and it scares me if I fail. Even If I fail I can learn a lot in bootcamp. I don't use drugs or drink and I'm as fit as a athlete.
Can anyone possitive feedback on my dilemma?
Doesn't look like you need to be working on your math skills //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

just based on your original post, i'd say you'll fail the written exam...

i don't even think i want to get into numbers with you lol //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

just go take a semester of math and english at college. $1200 to complete your life dream doesn't seem that steep to me...

Good luck on your ASVAB. It's pretty easy IMHO. I got 99's across the board. As for the deployments, yeah, count on it. You're gonna go. Army goes about 12 months at a pop, Marines go 6-8, navy 3-6, and Air Force goes 3-4. Yeah, I'm Air Force and I've been to Iraq and Afghanistan. Don't worry about the idiots here talking about failing a written test, there is no such thing in the service. If we can't do it with multiple choice, then by God we don't do it! Just study the ASVAB study guide like one of the other guys mentioned and you'll do fine. I'm stationed basically in the middle of Ft. Bragg and let me tell you, there are some total retards in the 82nd airborne. Not all mind you, but there's a LOT! You should be fine. Hell, you just might surprise yourself. Study the book, get a good night's sleep, and you'll be ok. As for the PT part, just run a couple miles every day, and do some push-ups and sit-ups every day, ,and you will be better prepared than pretty much everyone in your platoon. You'd be surprised the way some people show up to basic. It's kinda funny actually.

I said earlier that my keyboard is fvcked up. I type the words and it misses keys sometimes or choose other keys. I do have a wireless keyboard and mouse but I think I left it back in Florida by mistake so I'm using one that was given to me. I do not have time to read it over and do spell check while my thread was blowing up last night.

jjski78, thank you for your advice and I will get that ASVAB and study my *** off. I'm just praying that they will get me in with out it beacause of my determination. Most people quit after the first try and this is my third try.

One more day and we'll see what happens and I'll keep everyone posted.

Thank you for everyone who posted possitive feedback for me. It really means alot to me.

To the OP, I comend you on trying to live your dream and make your self a role model for your kids and believing in your country. Major props to that. It is people like you that when it comes right down to it make this country run. Seems like you have a lot to give and that is cool. I wish I had some of that myself. I am 30 and never, ever thought about joining and still to this day would never consider it. I think I am too old anyway. But, I respect your feelings and glad there are people like you around. Also, I **** at math, but have friends who were worst than me pass it with out problems, so just give it your best. Hope if you do get signed up, that you dont go over to Iraq, but chances are you will. Good luck and god speed.

Thank you bigbangtheory . I will give everyone the details on how it went. I know I won't be inlisted right then and there but I'll find out what I need to accomplice to do so.

Thank you everyone for your possitive comments. I know my family is hating it but it's my choice.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
