Thinking about going to active set up

So I just installed an amp that doesn't have any setting but high pass or low pass and it's running my front speakers so I am going to get a crossover for it and have seen that having an active set up is a lot better but looking at some of the diagrams and stuff for the slopes looks pretty complicated can any one give me any ideas on sites or any thing to better understand them and be able to successfully run my system active
