Thinking about getting a motorcycle

Had a buddy whos friend was a rider...Clipped an 18 wheeler and lost a leg.

Also a former coworker of mine who was a hard core rider lost control of his bike at 110...completely messed him up...he was in a coma for a loong time...and still till this day he is in the hospital.

make sure you know what you're gettin into, fyi the hood of a truck is almost at the perfect level to bash your head into if you get rear ended....and it hurts like a *****. but that don't keep me off my bike, I just wear a helmet now
You should always wear your gear. Lesson learned huh.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Probably not this year due to the fact that my goal is to pay off my car, but most likely next year I'll be picking up my first bike. I've witnessed deaths as well. Some were the riders fault, some not. One kid slid on gravel and ended up under an SUV traveling the other direction. Close friend actually so I'll admit once it happened I completely put off the idea of getting a bike. I've come to terms though. You take a risk every moment of your life. You could be walking on the sidewalk and get hit by a car. Almost picked up a bike when I turned 18, but my father asked me to wait. He used to ride quite a bit and likely still would if the money for a bike were there. He never told me not to get one, just to wait. If you feel like you're mature enough to truly respect the machine under you, go for it. Otherwise, you'll wonder about it forever. At least have to try.

x2. PA got rid of their helmet law and I'll still be using one. It's amazing, I don't like to wear my seatbelt (although I've been slowly getting into the habit), but I'd never consider riding without a helmet. I saw the way my dad's back was torn up after going down, so I don't care if it's a 90* day, all gear will be worn lol.

smart man...

I have witnessed some things I wish I didn't and some I wouldn't wish on anyone. However, almost all could have been avoided in some way or another. Obviously not everything is that simple, but a lot of comes down to simply ride at YOUR level and NOT someone else's. If you are new to riding and you are riding with those have ridden for years and they won't wait up on you because you are slower, then just don't ride with them. Find some others to ride with that will not push you into a position you are not able to handle.

More people hurt/killed in VEHICLES(cars, trucks, suvs, etc) than motorcycles. True facts, look it up pansies.
Apparently the concept of proportions is outside

Your mental capacity. There are A LOT more cars on the road and a lot

More ppl riding inside them on average

If you actually compare the legalized riders(only about half of what really ride on the streets) to the wrecks with serious injuries or fatalities you would be amazed to find that it is actually very low.

mental capacity has nothing to do with the facts i stated.................you saying they are wrong?

Also, it would appear you already made up your mind from false facts. Which is fine, but just saying.

Damn, I can't believe how many people are telling the OP not to get a bike...

I've been riding for a few years now and can't get enough of it. Just be serious with yourself, no matter what your "dirtbike" or previous experience is, start on a small bike. A 250 or 500 is perfect, do not go out and buy a big fuel injected inline 4 as your first bike. Learn the fundamentals on a small bike and just be alert. And ALWAYS wear the proper gear.

One thing to look at is, within the accidents of bikes and cars/trucks, which are you likely to be more seriously injured in. Not talking 100mph or anything crazy, but being in a "fender bender" style accident. Far more exposed on a bike than anything else, even if I agree that plenty more accidents occur due to improper experience and safety precautions.

I give everyone the benefit of a chance on here. Liquid is a good guy from what I have seen on here. Some people are just not ok with some of the risks involved with riding. It is not for everyone that is for sure. I have seen many riders show up for only a season or two and walk away.

It's funny to me who people with NO experience on the matter, think their advice is relative. Also funny, how the OP listens to X amount of people say "NO", then chooses to rebut the one that is supportive.................smart.

I want a busa very bad, and will have one at some point. Obviously I'm not ready for a bike of that caliber yet. So at the moment I have a just a little 250 bike to get used to and I will be upgrading in summer 2012 to a 600 to get used to a bike with more power. Only after I'm used to a 600 will I actually consider the busa. If you learn to ride correctly and not hot dog and try to be one of those ignorant piles of crap, you shouldn't have a whole lot of trouble on a bike.
If you always respect the machine and don't "hot dog" then there will be no difference between the 600 and the busa. 600's usually have a top speed of like 170 and accelerate way faster than you'd ever need to...I seriously just don't understand the idea of those giant supersports on the street.
