Think it's time to upgrade, Spectrum Analyzer?

Well I'm still sporting my Alpine 3DA-W882, love this unit, but I have issues when I want to hook up AUX components because of it's age.

I'm currently looking at the Alpine CDA-9887, from the specs it seems like an excellent head unit. I'm a pretty big audiophile, I will definitely take quality over features, just not looking to drop the 1400.00 on the Clarion, not to mention I have yet to have a complaint with the ergonomics and quality of Alpine.

Thinking about going with a JL Stealthbox, a McIntosh 4 chan and Mono amp, and either 4 JL mids and 2 tweeters, or infinity kappa perfects.

Any advice or tips on this setup would be appreciated, but my main question is...

Spectrum Analyzers in car audio, where did they go? Why is this not a display feature on every car stereo? There's nothing more attractive then the rythmic dancing of the spectrum analyzer at night.

All I can find is an old Pioneer single DIN EQ with a SA. Do they make newer ones? Is this Pioneer still good enough? Thanks.

Driving a 1999 Tacoma Extra cab.

I've done a bit of research and turned up with the Alpine RUX-C701, how would this go with the CDA 9887? Anyone with experience with this pair? Encountered any issues?

hmmm the spectrum analizer kinda got faded out in the mid 90's for home equipment.

I dont know of to many head units that offer this

I know the Pioneer 960mp and 860mp have this feature but they are about 5 years old

My Pioneer 7800MP has a spectrum display. It's nothing fancy, no labels and only two color layout options. But you're right, a spectrum analyzer is crazy geeky cool! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The Pioneer also has an analog vu meter display which is kind of cool.

If you find one, let us know!

I have one of the Alpine PXA-H700 (first gen of 701) I love it and it's probably one of the better EQ's out there. The head unit doesn't matter too much, but if it has an optical out then even better so you can keep the signal digital while you EQ. The unit is easy to use and gives a lot of options.

Pioneer 7800mp and p780mp (premier version) both have multiple spectrum analyzer's on em. they arent fancy as stated above, but they are on there.

The 780mp has tons of tuning options on it as well. Full band eq, seat-specific imaging settings, different processing settings, etc etc. A great unit, i miss mine.
