Think I'm Gonna Be Jealous?

My brother just picked up an Adire Audio Shiva MkIV 12" with a Subzero ported box which is suppose to be tuned at 34hz. It will be powered by a Profile Baja series amp putting out 200Watts RMS at 4 ohm, not sure what at 2ohm though I"m not sure how the Shiva can be wired.

I currently have a Kicker L5 10" in a sealed box. It's wired at 1 ohm pushed by an xtant 403a which is suppose to do 200Watts RMS for the mono channel I think at either 2 or 4ohm. Not sure what it is at 1ohm.

My sub is nice, but I think it needs more power. I'm wondering how his will sound cpmpared to mine. I may need to convince him not to bolt it in his trunk so I can "borrow" it from time to time.

So what do you guys think? Am I gonna be jealous of his bass?

Most likely. I've used my 403a on a sub and it sounded wonderful, but you may be jealous because he has a shiva. The shiva is really effecient and the added effeciency of ported box will come to play as well. You have a powerful amp, but with your Kicker being a little ineffecient compared to his Shiva will be the difference. If you had double the power, you'd probably win, but with around the same amount.........I'd bet he's louder (not by much though).

Why would you be jealous. It all depends, but I doubt he'll be much louder if any. Not enough to get jealous of anyhow.

shiva will probly be the win. but who cares if ur happy with what u have then no worries.

build a ported box for urs and be just as loud hehe ...

he's got cone area going for him, plus a driver that has the potential for a lot of SQ in that app.

Go ported if you're really worried about output, although even then it may still be a tough call.

I'm a bit more concerned with sound quality, though strong output is nice too. I've heard that the Shiva has great sound quality and the kicker is really more for SPL. Though I can't really say that the kicker is that bad with SQ. I want to built a fiberglass ported box for my kicker, or at least getting a more powerful mono amp for it. I'm just not sure if it's worth spending the extra money to get a little more output. Not sure how much of a difference it would really make.

Single Shiva with dual 8 coils will wire to 4ohm.

Which Subzero box is it? Do you have a model number? How many cubic feet is it?

200 RMS is plenty for daily driving. Depending on that box, it should give some decent results.

I think it's a real nice looking box and subzeros have a reputation for quality. Can't wait to hear it.
