So i'm new to this stuff have a question any info would help.

I bought a Alpine-SWR-12D2 dual 2-ohm sub off ebay

and Alpine-MRV-M500 amp its 2ohm 500 rms 4 ohm 350rms

i was thinking 2ohm amp. 2 ohm sub= 500rms and i beleave i just found out im wrong so this set up will have to be set at 1ohm:amp cant handle" or 4ohms this that right??

and if it has to be set at 4ohm is 350watts way under powered for a single type r?

im totally confused any info would help thxs.

If the sub has two voice coils (hence the "dual" or "D” in the name) you have to wire the coils together on the sub before wiring them to the amp. They do this to give you more wiring options (D2 can be wired to 4 or 1).

Get a bigger amp or better yet see if you can return the sub and get the dual 4 option so you can wire it to 2.

Obviously 350 is less than 500, but it won't make that much difference in performance.

If the exchange process is semi-convenient go ahead with that, but if not -- 350 will work fine.

Unless you can step it up to 700+ the improvement won't be significant.
