THE Thread

i know im partially right here, Cause..why would ur lights dim... Cause the alt turns kinda off and forces the car to rely off the battery, which doesnt have as strong enough current. Thats why its called an Alternator Turns on when needed. U can drive w.o a battery CAUSE the car KNOWs it doesnt have another source, so it keeps drawing from the alt. (not saying it has a brain, but by basic electrical flow.) Yes i understand the distance thing. (kinda). Being electricity travels at the speed of light, who would really understand how 10' of cable would make a difference. As for the Point of a Cap, LETS say your amp Peaks.. and needs 14.4volts. (like some amps support) and ur racing down the highway, neons lit, etc. the Alt gets overdrawn which does hurt the alt a lil bit, AND the amp doesnt have the full power it needs, It kinda touches the amp.. but it does affect it somewhat cause it is asking for so much and not getting it. It does effect your speakers cause of distortion. That Cap prevents any serious pull/draw. and YES it is to give constant power. it doesnt fill when it wants to, it fills when it is not full, or otherwise programmed. (yes its possible) NO, its NOT a battery. hence name CAPACITOR. For the most part.. since it isnt the size of a battery, it charges PRETTY quick. The ONLY purpose is to prevent overdraw and underdraw from its source.. Kinda like a water dam, No dam... no constant pressure..

Ok, As for the electrical system. Since the cap is usualy between the battery and amp or Alt and amp. It effects your elec. sys by not shorting it. If the System is supplied with its needs in full, constantly, it doesnt draw it from any other source or preventing any other component from receiving any electricity. (onec again, water) Running the Shower and washer or toilet at the same time.

Ok, now i got my side in, altho short handed and late.. lets end this now.. cause they are totaly different opinions and we could go at this forever.

Truce?

i would just like to say one thing, an alternator cannot turn on or off by itself. It is connected directly to the belt, so as long as your engine is running, the alt is "on". And it's not called an alternator because it can turn on or off, it's because the insides of it are spinning, creating electricity because of the alternating magnetic characteristics that the windings have(that might not be entirely true, but i'm 99% positive). not trying to argue or anything, just trying to spread the truth:)

Alternator = alternating current

yes your right, when i ment on and off.. i ment it wasnt supply current.. but i didnt wanna get into the details of that since that wasnt the arguemnt.

But yes i do agree.

i love the definition of "stock" cars. the mclaren, it's stock alright, if you wanna spend 1.5 mil on it, and the jag is what, $250,000? at least. for $250,000, i could drop a 502 into my stang, go all out on a 30 psi supercharger and 4-point suspension, etc. and be running low 7's. now that's a fast car, although not street legal in any way shape or form.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
