you proponents of hiroshima and nagaski are forgetting something cruicial... the war was won at that point anyways... there was no need to drop two atomic bombs, let alone on two of the most poulated cities in hte country. the war was won, it was uneccecary and ludicrious.

Good point wonder, but is it ludacris now? Would it not help us? Can we not hope that the US can pin point the nuc lad of iraq and north korea and just drop 1 or 2 10,000ton bombs on them? Without Nuc Warfar it seems inevitable that the US with our Air Strikes and huge amounts of tanks, soldiers, and other ground systems would ever be a force to reckon with......

First off, they bombed our troops that were in Pearl Harbor (although that is still in speculation as to who did it, but we're pretty sure it was the Japanese). Also, we weren't fully aware of the reprocussions and effects that those bombs would have after they were dropped. Japan is still suffering from those bombs. Thirdly, the nukes we have now are much more developed than they were then...we can do a whole lot more damage with one than we could have during WWII....

actually we were pretty aware of the repercussions...but we felt that they outweighed the costs. if we were instead to continue the war and invade japan, then millions of americans and japanese would have died. we, once again, felt that we would save many lives by dropping a nuke rather than invade...

i suggest you guys pick up a copy of Hiroshima, its a book. just finished reading it. some pretty bloody accounts of the bomb being dropped, but also a lot of good came out of it...

whoever suggested nuking iraq made stupid, ignorant, and naive comment....completely different situations.

I never said nuc...I said highly bomb them....also a 10,000ton bomb wont destroy the whole country so no Wonder im not saying level it....Im simply saying put the bb guns away and bring out the shotguns....Hopefully when they see our real weaponary they will have a change of mind....if not they will get a chance to see them in action...

Wonderbread the war was not over before we dropped the nuke. You are actually wrong about this. Truman ordered that an atomic bomb be used if Japan did not surrender by a the beginning of August . Japan rejected the chance to surrender and then we dropped the bomb.

North Korea vs. Iraq

I believe that we did need to go into Iraq and take Sadam out of power, but North Korea must also be dealt with. Just wanted to clarify my beliefs. THere will also be no peace in the middle east when this war is over. If Iraq and Afghanistan are successfully rebuilt as free nations then there will be terrorist acts from groups in Iran, Pakistan, and possibly Saudi Arabia mostly against Iraq and Afghanistan out of anger of their new nation.

the war was effectively over...

the Japanese were unable to effectively continue fighting. the american military would ahve had NO problem finishing the war without the bomb.

whoever said that the americans knew the reprocussions before it was dropped has to pull their head out of heir butt.

if htey knew so well, why did they spend the next 15 years studying the reprocussions on people?

They had no idea that it would ruin teh land for the next 30 years, and just how far reaching and long lasting hte effects of nulear radiation were.... they had no idea...

We could have won the war without the bomb, but it would have cost us a lot of lives. It was also very effective though. Countries may appear to have lost a war and may not have any chance of winning, but their continued fight can cause wars to drag out for a long time. Look at the vietnam. THe military knew that it would have an effect on the atmosphere and environment for many years to come. Scientists weren't stupid back then, afterall they did create the bomb. They probably knew exactly how long it would take for a given amount of radiation to dissipate. What they didn't know was what level of radiation is safe for people to live in. Don't underestimate the military. Remember they created the internet, not Al Gore.
