Re: Wright's Sound Gallery

One of my bad sticking points with them is their pricing generally tends towards the outrageous. $2/foot for 4awg wire? I understand retail is retail but shoot!

My main beef with them, however, is their corporate sales policy which is literally 'Fleece Every Customer That Walks In The Door For As Much As Humanly Possible.' Up to and including sending their sales staff to classes where they are taught to upsell to an exponential level especially if they get a somewhat obviously affluent customer.

Now I don't begrudge a good salesperson getting the most out of every customer relationship. But, like all things, I think there should be an ethical limit to certain behavior.

Example:

An elderly woman, undoubtedly someone's "Granny," buys a new car and it comes stock with a CD player and no cassette. Well, this is a problem because the only media Granny owns music on is four-track cassette tapes. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif Poor Granny...

Granny rocks on up the street to Wright's because she recalls her grandson talking about them selling car radios so she reckons there ought to be someone in there that can help her out. She goes in and explains what she needs and why (getting rid of the OEM CD and replacing it with a cassette receiver....yes, they still make 'em...) but admittedly knows very little about them.

Joe Salesguy's eyes light up and he can just smell the commission! So our guy Joe engages Granny in a long diatribe about "this" stereo is the only one we have that will fit properly in your car....and then if you replace your stock radio with "this" one you'll then need to upgrade to "these" better quality speakers lest this new radio blow out your old ones.....and unfortunately to get the best sound out of "these" speakers you'll have to get "that" amplifier which will require "one of these" install kits and to put all of this in your car it will require a fee of "! edited for obscenity !*

"Well," Granny thinks, "Joe Salesguy sure seems like a nice young man and such a nice fella wouldn't steer me wrong so it must be that I need all this stuff to be able to listen to my tapes." //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Granny came in looking for something that should have cost her no more than $150 tops and leaves about a grand lighter. I'll tell you the truth, man, 'cause I've seen it too many times but scenarios like the above-descibed aren't as uncommon as one might think. Wright's specifically teaches their sales staff how to make the above happen if at all possible ~ each time, every time.

I find that ethically repugnant so I choose not to do business there.

I understand, Yeah I bought my first system there (Pair of Rockford Fosgate Punch Z 10's off of a rockford fosgate Punch 150s) and they charged me an *** load. My Parents just have an obsession with them, because thats where they get their equipment from (HT). But yeah like you said I agree with salesmen trying to make an extra buck or two, but there is a limit. I also now refuse to do business with them, partly because I cant stand their sales team, and the installers think they are gods gift to car audio. Also because I get a huge discount at Alpineinstallers shop in my home town //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif, I got my 9855 for right at 345, and alpines MSRP is ~500, and best buy carries it for like 450. You ought to head down to mansfield one day and speak with them. They can get Diamond Audio for sure, and I think they can get kenwood. Dont be starteled when you walk in the shop and you see an assload of Power Accoustic, SPL brand, Jensen, and Dual. they sell that because no one in mansfield would know a good sounding system if it slapped him/her in the face.

I may have a wander down there and have a look one afternoon when I have some time to kill. What's the name of it or an address so I can MapQuest it? (i'm not terribly familiar with Mansfield having never really done anything but drive through the middle of it)

The Diamond Audio dealer in Bossier also sells Power Acoustik and Xplod gear. Tony (the manager) says not everyone coming through the door is quite ready to pony up the scratch for a 15" D9 and a D61500.1 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif so he needs some gear to suit those buyers as well.

Prowler Ill give you directions first and then a map.

Ok, You leave S-port going south on I-49

Exit at the Kingston Frierson (hwy 175) Make a right and go infront of the New Relay Station

Continue on 175 all the way into mansfield

When you get to mansfield make a right on HWY 509

Continue on 509 until you get to the first traffic light, and make a right onto HWY 84

His shop is a huge Yellow Building, you litterally cant miss it, Its painted that color for a reason.
