I'm guessing supa's not going to answer me and as I know nothing about sniping being illegal after having been in countless discussions on the eBay boards about it I'll answer what was asked of me.
Nothing difficult about the concept, ladies and gentlemen.
Sniping is placing your MAX bid in the last ten seconds of an auction listing so that no one else has the opportunity to place a reactionary bid trying to top yours. Simply decide what the absolute maximum you'd be willing to spend on that particular item and bid it all at once, at the tail end of the listing's timeframe. eBay's proxy system will do the rest for you. If you still end up losing to a higher earlier proxy bid then they simply had deeper pockets than you (or were willing to spend more than you reckon an item is worth) and in that case there's nothing to be upset about in response to losing.
