the right test tone to play?

im pretty new and never messed with test tones. when finding the best test tone that suits your system specs, how do you figure what fhz/hz you really need? does it go by how well your box is tuned to or what the sub can play at its lowest hz?

i have 2 12" kicker L7's in a ported box tuned to 38hz, but i dont know the cubic feet (i think its 1.5 per camber)

i want to meter my vehicle to see how many db's i can push with factory equipment before i upgrade.

If you're tuned to 38hz, the peak of your box will generally be a few hertz higher, maybe 42 or so. Normally, if you were going for all out SPL, you would find your vehicle's resonant frequency before building your box and tune it accordingly.
