The RIAA is after me........

shit wipe ur HD and burn every CD in ur possestion... then deny DENY DENY
Do that plus change you Nic card..

Each NIC card has a Unique 12 digit HEX address that looks somethng like this 0020.40ae.16f9...

They records will show that they have IP xx.xx.xx.xx leased to a MAC address of XXXX.XXXX.XXXX you can say, I dunno what happend someone must have been spoofing my IP or some others... My MAC is yyyy.yyyy.yyyy

I work for an ISP... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nerd.gif.c6fa51ddf7ff75f1c0371fbc648f70ae.gif

well i now for me that wouldn't work, my cable company records every mac number according to isp. So if i was to change my card i wouldn't be able to get online untill i called them and they recorded my mac address. AKA if i changed it they would know.

ah thats a good idea. And by getting a new mac address, u will be assigned a new IP. Didnt think about that.

Nic card = network/ethernet card.

network interface card? i forgot ;/

Vewwy good.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Now, without looking it up, do you know what layer of the OSI model the MAC is at and what other network device norally is thuought to work at that same layer?

Lastly, whats the next layer and whats the device that usally is thought to opperate at that level???

heh i dunno about all that. When u say device im guessing a router? Cuz a router has a mac address as well and ur ISP would assign the IP address to the routers mac address.

Heh u sound like u know ur stuff. I want to get into networking and stuff. After i go to college

The Mac address is found at layer two of the OSI model

The IP address is at layer three of the OSI Model

Layer 2 devices are normally Switches or some type of bridge

Layer 3 Devices are Normaly Routers...

I know a lil... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ha i dunno anything about that layer stuff but ill learn soon

I guess by NT technology u mean microsoft. Nic cards have nothing to do with MS. U simply use a nic card to connect with a network. U can use them with any OS

You completely missed it...

I'll have to explain it, which makes the joke soooo much less funny. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

NIC Card = network interface card... card.

NT Technology = New Technology... technology

It's just commonly screwed up phrases used...

Just like Microsoft "works" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

Wow what a thread... Six pages of some good and funny stuff.

I haven't kept up with the RIAA for some time now but as I understand it they are targeting uploaders or the people who are sharing the files. By doing this they stop the source. As far as I know they haven't gotten anyone for just downloading a song.

When they move to this stage I fear they will put out "infected" songs that contain a bug that calls home when played and says something like "Song title, IP, MAC, time, etc." this will be the easiest way but will get a lot of results, not just the main uploaders.

An ISP is required by law to give your IP out with a court order. This is why they file John Doe lawsuits, since they can't contact you before filing. This was one downside to ISPs not giving out the info.

For my cable company (Comcast) they recorded the MAC of the device originally hooked up. In my case this was my PC. I later purchased a router and had to clone my PCs MAC into the Router, also had to change the Xbox’s MAC when directly connecting it. So while this may work for some others like me they will have a record.

I think the whole downloading of music is freaking crazy. I can record a song off Launch or the radio, but I can't download a song off the net that more than likely has some glitches and probably isn't even the complete song. No longer can someone download something they have never heard of like it and go to the store and buy it.

As for wiping your HD there are programs that will do a true delete. I used to have a program Wipe that would format the HD then write 0s and 1s, format and write 0s and 1s, etc. The problem with deleted files is unless the area has been overwritten with other data the old data is usually there.

P.S. Composed using Windows XP based on NT... LOL!!! (So glad my OS is based on New Technology)

as for wiping a harddrive, you are better off smashing the discs with a freaking hammer.

the FBI can retrieve data that has been through a 3 pass 1\0 wipe (as far as i know) there was a tech TV episode where they had "disk destroyers" and the one used by the US govt' was basically a plate where the disc sits, and a cylander with a bunch of spikes that rotates in a circle and on its X axis, and just tears the hell out of the side of the disk.

there was a minimum of 15 spins for it to be allowed to thrown into the garbage. this was for regular CD. imagine what they do with a harddisk... id imagine theyd turn that magnet to dust with some kind of pulvarizer thing.

as for music being already "paid" for. does it matter? lets say i steal candy. then share it. you eat stolen candy. and thats wrong. lets say somone paid for the candy. and then shared it. the owner lost his candy, and you now have the candy. this is all fine and good, because the place that sold the candy made the money from what you just ate. *BUT* in the record buisness, if somne bought a CD and gave you a "COPY" its a duplication of the origional, therefore the owner has not lost his copy of the CD (as the owner of the candy did) and you now have it also, therefore the record company lost the sale of the record to YOU, and lost their $18, and you have the CD for the cost of the disc.

i agree that 15~18 is a rediclious sum of money for a disc that costs 2 cents to manufacture, 2 cents to stamp, and a case\pamphlet that costs 10 cents to print.

and maybe 2 dollars out of the 18 goes to the musician. folley.

im not going to prech to you or anyone else here. but the company that is selling that product is not making money when you DUPLICATE their product. when it comes to things you cant duplicate, such as candy, its ok and dandy because the origional purchaser lost his\her product. but when you both get the product and pay once. thats where they are loosing money, and upping the prices for the CD's for llammah people who dont know what they are doing.

ive been in the scene for a few years now, and i know how it all works on the 0-second. i had a buddy who was a 0sec courrier for 10 or 15 groups. one of them got busted, good thing that he was on vacation that week. or the cops of been at his door too. all the people that were around got arrested\fined\jailed(hosters mainly)..

i believe there was nigh on a terabyte or more of music confiscated.

now, believe what you will, but when you download music. you are duplicating an origional, and that IS stealing.

it is my oppinion that if you get caught stealing, you should be punished\fined\confiscated. at most, if you are just a simpleton downloading, they should delete it all, rather than having court fees- and lawsuits imo.

good luck getting sued tho guy. i bet you will loose (if this is real).
