Ares. It's been trouble free for years.

As of today I have given up on P2P, etc. I just singed up for Ruckus.

If they are sharing it they can see that you are connected to them and downloading it, once the download is done and if you are not sharing they can't see that you have it, unless they check internet logs and see that you did download it.

Schools don't care about downloading. Its the sharing/uploading that they don't like.

They care about both, its the sharing that is easier to find and get caught for doing.

If you talk to people in industry they recruit MTU students for engineering positions before they recruit U of M students, some companies even exclusively recruit MTU.

that depends..... if you downloaded it from someone that is working for the RIAA.... you may still get caught..... they are not going after downloading as fervently however as it's too difficult to prove that YOU the owner of the computer actually downloaded it..... they can prove through monitoring software that you uploaded it which is a more serious offense..... it's like smoking weed and selling it.... you can still get charged with possession but it's a lot more serious if you get caught selling it....

many newer files coming out now are being seeded and planted by the RIAA and MPAA.... these files have impossible to get rid of watermarks that is entwined in the code itself..... the second you download or watch or listen or upload this file it sends a signal to the monitors.... and yes you're then caught..... one recent exploit was a near perfect copy of the bourne ultimatum that was out on the internet that was watermarked and monitored....
