hey guys. I am not new to the forum, nor am i new to box constructing, but when it comes to doing my first wall, i need alot of tips. ive viewed some of the walled vehicles build logs, and learned a small amount of things. but i also searched to no end, here and termpro, and clicked a whole bunch of dead links, and this is what ive resorted to.

So people who know how to build walls or have done it. I need help on constructing my first wall, I need tips like building in or out of the vehicle, wood, glue, bracing, layers, support, resin or no resin, things like that. any types just throw them in. And Im sure the usual pack of people are going to come in and make stupid comments, but please helpful tips, no bashing or name calling. thanks for any and all help.

also searched over there just now for that topic, no matches like 7 times, link maybe or maybe they deleted it? i don tknow

Its better not to wall off cars with long doors. A great example would be gaybmx's

build. The A pillar Is just to far back, making it a very poor choice to wall off and

compete with.

depends on how much you're willing to tear up your vehicle

basically your just trying to get as big of an enclosure as possible, and then seal off all gaps from front to back.

every vehicle is different so its impossible to tell you exactly how to do it

just have to get in a vehicle and start doing what you have to do to get it sealed off from the front, because thats all a wall is //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i know that just from doing a little research my self... and this is just from research because i have built all of 2walls in all of my install history to date and they all came out like total garbage... but it seems like the most important things are having a solid platform to build on. Loyd calls this the "dance floor". from there start building it (on the inside of the vehicle) from the outermost wall inward. depending on how crazy you are getting with it (like glueing bracing to the wall of the caravan to screw your baffles into) will determine how much space you will have around your box that you will later have to seal off from the front... and kinda seems like the rule of thumb is a triple or higher baffle on the subface. and cardboard will be your best friend when it comes to making templates for trim pieces at the end of the build.

know being that this is from someone with really crappy experience with walls and this is what i learned why researching on here, take it for what it is worth and use whatever advice might fit your install...

hope this might mend alittle of the bad blood that might still be lingering from shorty's "box build" where we kinda got into it... hope it turns out great for you]

one more thing... seems like everyone doing "the big walls" like the threaded rod for bracing... but from personal experience if you use it, make sure that shet is TIGHT, as rod has great tensional strength and rigidity, but very little compressive strength, and putting tension on the rod preloads it and makes it less like to flex under compressive force.

hope that helps a little... sorry it was kinda long

this should be somewhat insightful... i learned alot from this one.

and i know he isnt very well liked over here, but he did a great job on these 2 installs so i am going to reference them any way... go check out stevemeadedesigns.com and check out the build of the civic and the 02 cadilac with 8 18's... not the way i would have done either one... but the installs are pretty creative and it has pics of every step.
