If you like stupidity and gore, you should try Peter Jackson's earlier works (Yes he directed LOTR).

Bad Taste 1 and 2 (Low budget gore/comdey flicks)

Dead Alive (Newer, slightly higher budget, extreme gore/comedy flick).

Shining is a definite must see classic. Surprised you've never seen it. I saw it for the first time when I was 5, and it scared the living hell out of me. especially those 2 little girls.

I liked "The Others"

I liked House on Haunted Hill. Whole movie had this suspensful, demonic aura about it. Creeped me out...

Also, Night of the living dead series. Some of them are sort of cheesy, but I tend to like anything zombie.

Also--> 28 Days later: excellent zombie flick.
