I fail.
For those of you no don't frequent the other forum, thought I'd share this here as well.
B2 Audio Zero5 versus some of the other amps laying around the garage.
Many thanks to Alan and Josh. I didn't do this alone.
Ok, here we go...
The method:
None of these tests were done using "peak/hold" for any of the measurements. As you will see in the vid, the numbers move pretty quickly. We didn't take the highest or the lowest, but tried to catch them as they settled out or at least somewhere on the low side of the middle. All amps were tested the exact same way with a Fluke true RMS clamp. All amps wired to a .25 ohm load except the SD which was wired to 1.
As for setting gains... my method is simple. I turn them up until I stop gaining on the TermLab. I honestly don't even care about the clamp numbers. The only number I care about is the one on the TL. So, the results here will reflect the clamp from the highest score. With that said, from previous testing, most amps are the loudest clean or with a soft clip. So, take that for what it's worth.
The testing grounds:
The juice. 12v and 15v respectively:
The victims. Tantric Sounds HD 10's. These things took a beating tonight:
The Contestants. From left to right... AQ2200 (hey, why not?), B2 Audio "Zero5", RD D5, DD M3a and SounDigital 5k.
And now... The results:
All amps' rise were very, very similar so I will not be listing them individually. Rise was to .9
AQ2200
-13v - 2,538w @ 11.4v
-15.5v - 3,365w @ 13v
SounDigital 5k
I **** you not we saw 8k out of this thing on the first burp. Then I was like, "Oh, it's got a clip light." Lol.
We only tested 13v.
-7,139w rising to 1.95 & 11.5v clipped. No, I am not kidding.
-4,324w rising to 1.95 clean. Zero clip light.
DD M3a
-13v - 3,657w @ 11.2v
-15.5v - 4,088w @ 13v
RD D5
-13v - 3,898w @ 11.1v
-15.5v - 5,355w @ 13v
Drum roll, please...
B2 Audio Zero5
-13v- 4,052 @ 11.3v
-15.5v - 5,355w @ 13v
Vid...
There you have it, folks.
Oh, and by the way... best score of the night? 156.4. Pair of 10's in 0-600w? I'll take it.
