**The MLB Thread**

the reason his slugging went down like 40 points was because he had a few years where he was putting up 40+ homers and a ton of doubles. He went from like a 40 40 guy to a 30 30 guy which is why his slugging has decreased. He still puts up the rbi and average though.
You just supported my claim. His numbers declined. Don't even bring up RBI's. That is a team statistic.

If he did that his whole career, he may have put up better numbers while in Cleveland.
how many 64 year olds did he beat up in cleveland and how many times did he forget which leg was hurt?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif Nothing against him as when the game is on the line in a playoff game there is still not many others I would want batting for my team....

no i didn't. When someone puts up a 40-40 season it is rare. He did it and then when his numbers went down to 30-30 you say they have declined due to age? They declined because of his awesome season before, not because his age.

ESPN doesn't orgasm over the Indians as they do the Red Sox so I don't know.

His awesome seasons just happened to be between the ages of 25-30? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif That doesn't support my claim how? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Pedroia? Are you kidding me? The AL must of sucked this year. At least Cabrera finished 13th.
Do you watch Baseball?

LOL ignore all his stats? His slugging was under 500, his OPS was under 900, OBP of 376 and he is MVP? Manny and Bay were more valuable to the Red Sox then Pedroia.
In his second year mind you...

Pedroia led the AL in doubles (54), runs scored (118), stolen base percentage (95.2 percent) and tied for the most hits (213 with Seattle’s Ichiro Suzuki). He was second in batting average (.326), third in at-bats (653), tied for third in singles (140), and fourth in total bases (322). He already has been awarded the Gold Glove and the Silver Slugger for AL second basemen.

Bay and Manny didnt do more than Pedroia ,sounds like you dont watch the games and dont live in the market. Youk did more than Bay and Manny.

The kid at his size just put together the best season at second base at both sides of the game in a long *** time.

The gold glove is a bullshit award. Pedroia's fielding percentage, range factor, and zone rating were worse then Polanco's who won the award in 07 based on offense. If Polanco was good enough in 07 to win the award, he should've been good enough to win it in 08. It just goes to show that playing on a good team and putting up good offensive numbers equates to a gold glove.

Runs scored? That is a team stat, dependant on guys like Manny, Bay, Ortiz to drive him in. Take away those sluggers and Pedroia doesn't lead the league in runs scored.

Sure he's deserving of the silver slugger, but MVP? Christ Jermaine Dye had a better Slugging percentage and OPS, with more home runs.

The best season at 2nd base in a long time? Did you watch baseball in 07? did you miss Polanco's 07 season? Roberto Alomar? Jeff Kent? Robinson Cano? First Albert Pujols is Michael Jordan now Pedroia is the next great 2nd basemen in recent memory?

You have to watch him play everyday to understand the guy. He is not a box score player and the voters/writers made that clear with the votes. Yes I agree Placido is a great player and he did have a hell of a season. Doesnt give him the right to win it every year. no its not a achievement award but yes reputation always comes in.

You bring up HR and RBI. Pedroia is a two hitter, its not his job. You need to get on base and let the middle of the order drive you in just like you said.

Compare Placido and Dustin in 07 and 08. Dustin had a better season sure his average and obp are a little less. Everything else is better. I would say Placido like Dustin had great seasons as far as second baseman. Dustins was better. You cant say take away so and so cause that is playing make believe. Runs are based on the team yes. But you still have to get on and score and run the bases properly

http://www.baseball-reference.com/p/pedrodu01.shtml Dustin

At the end of the day it was MVP of the 08 season, he played on a team where the line up was a shell of itself due to injuries and Manny being an asshat. He won a GG and is at the top of most stats in the AL. Look at the Baseball reference stats at the bottom they are all there and ranked. You tell me who should have won.

Jermain Dye? Dustin had 13 less RBI and he hits second what does that tell you about hitting with RISP, Dustin also had 10 more doubles, a better obp and struck out about half as much and had a better average.

The kid is like 5'9" 175 lbs this is amazing what he has done.

People are robbed for GG often just asked Alex Gonzales his one season in Boston was pure magic and he didn't win.

did I say ignore all of his stats?

Dustin led the Red Sox to the playoffs....what was Ortiz doing? Where was Manny?

The guys you are talking about are great stat guys but thats about it.

Real special players are the guys who not only get the stats but carry and lead the team, guys who make it happen.

Look at Kirby Puckett for instance. He was a great hitter and a great fielder but what made him hall of fame was Clutch hitting with runners on and sparking big rallies. He would come through with the game on the line or make gold glove plays to win.

Even the little things like running everything out, hustling and keeping the team pumped up.

Many guys can compile excellent numbers but how many do that and clutch hit and lead their teams. When you look at great baseball teams over history they all had one of them and had guys who worked hard and knew their roles. Some these teams have way too many huge egos and try to buy the World Series. When the guys come up together through their system they seem to play much better together.

LOL

Pedroia wasn't even the best player on his team LOL. I guess Boston having one of the better staffs in MLB had nothing to do with it?

STFU, do you know how clutch albert pujols is? Pujols is one of the best baserunners in baseball and always runs everything out, he is obsessed with scoring runs. He is the best player in baseball period. Any real baseball fan will tell you this.
