Also for Boston to acquire Santana, they'll have to give up one of the starters you mentioned. Minnesota is not going to give away Santana.
there are many things that are being talked about and from what was all mentioned if Santana went to boston that would be the rotation with wakefield sharing time with clay

Detroit's payroll is now over 100 million with Renteria and Guillen's extension kicking in. Mike Illitch is not afraid to spend money. He has even made it known he wants nothing more then a Tigers championship. Before the salary cap the Red Wings had the biggest payroll in the NHL. There is no way you can just move around 30 million. You'll have to increase payroll to bring in A-rod. The Tigers are in a position where they can increase payroll. Illitch has said we would spend upwards of 130 million in payroll.

Minnesota will want either Lester or Buckholz in return among prospects. Pitchers like Santana are not widely available and every team needs pitching.

boston's payroll dropped by almost 30 million..schilling filled for free agency, clement will be gone as well as gagne..to get santana wouldnt be anything of a straight deal with minnesota would be a 3-4 team deal and boston wouldnt lose a pitcher...more or less a couple bench players, an outfielder and a shortstop lol and in turn eat a contract lol

nhl payrolls mean what to baseball payrolls? following of the red wings was also due to their success over the years...detroit is called hockey town usa correct? detroit has what a 5 game loss in the world series and a winning season on top of that? the richest teams in baseball all can spend more as i dont hear about too many of them talking about losing money and going under like the penguins ........

Are you kidding me? Do you think Minnesota is going to trade Santana for bench players? I know Terry Ryan isn't in Minnesota anymore, but the new GM cannot be this retarded

Mike Illitch owns the Red Wings //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

The Tigers were spending money when they were losing. Following a 119 loss season, they signed Ivan Rodriguez to a big contract. The next season after losing 90 games they signed Magglio to a huge contract. The next season after losing 92 games they signed Kenny Rogers. Also at the trade deadline they kept their veterans and instead of trading for prospects, they traded for Polanco at the deadline. Then after the Tigers made it to the World Series, they go out and get Sheffield and sign him to an extension. Then following their pennant, they win 88 games but weren't satisfied and got Renteria. Magglio, Guillen, Polanco, Inge, Renteria are creeping into their 30's. Pudge and Sheffield are into their late 30's. The window of oppurtunity to win is now. The Tigers have shown in the past they are willing to spend. They have an owner who will pay to win. The Tigers will increase their payroll to win. The Renteria trade shows they are not willing to just finish above 500 and in 2nd place.

lol more than 1 team would be in on the trade ..DER for Gammons to talk about it there must not be any way for it to happen:laugh:

i dont care who owns the the tigers, boston already had renteria and was a NO go......and the contract AROD wants is basically 30% of your teams payroll ..dont see it happening lmao and even if it does will be just another goose egg in the playoffs....stats dont mean crap unless they are done when it counts and AROD has not done anything since his seattle days 8 years ago......he had better teams with the yankees than what they have in detroit...

Why does it not matter who owns the team? That is the one cutting the checks LOL. Illitch was a Tigers minor leaguer. He is getting up in age and has said repeatedly he wants nothing more then to see the Tigers win. He made the same commitment to the Red Wings and turned a franchise going nowhere into a near dynasty. The Tigers payroll is only 20 million from being the 3rd highest. Subtract Casey's 4 million, add Renteria's 9 million, and Guillen's 7 million increase and the team payroll is at 107 million, only 9 million behind the Mets. Also if the Yankees were so much better then Detroit's current roster, why did they get pwnd by Detroit in the playoffs? The Yankees don't have the pitching Detroit has, and Detroit has plenty of pieces to put around A-rod. They have Granderson and Polanco to bat ahead of A-rod, Magglio, Sheffield and Guillen to bat behind A-rod. That's a pretty stacked lineup. Hell with Casey and without Renteria the Tigers finsished 3rd in MLB in offense. In 2006 their pitching staff was the best in baseball, and most of it is still intact. Detroit has a pretty solid team to put around A-rod. I'm not buying this post season BS either. How come nobody gets on Guerrero? He has been absolutely pathetic in the playoffs.

And also about Gammons, well Olney and Stark have said the Tigers are a leader for A-rod //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
i am not talking about g@yrod! and i still dont see them breaking the bank to get arod because some of those young guys are going to want to be getting paid soon lol. all i can say for sure is the red sox are at about 20-30 million less now and were willing to spend more if the players are worth it. they will also be dumping some other 2-3 million dollar a year players ... those are the ones they may trade and eat a contract or 2 to make it work. the red sox bench doesnt have sucky players on it either in many cases they are better than what other teams put on the field. there is about a 30 million dollar gap between the red sox and the third highest pay team while there is/was/ could be still a 50+ million dollar gap between NYY and the Red Sox. with what the sox got rid of and what the yanks got rid of just means they both have A LOT of money to throw around lol

Texas wasn't a big spender when they signed A-rod //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif The Tigers have pursued numerous free agents in the past, but the team was so bad they didn't want to sign here. The team's payroll in 2006 was 80 million. It's already gone up 25 million in a year. Before 06 it was down near 50 million so in the span of 5 years, the team has doubeled it's payroll.

Verlander and Granderson are under team control until 2010 at least. By then Sheffield, Renteria, Polanco and Pudge will be off the books, Magglio will have one more year if his clause kicks in and most likely will, Guillen will only have two years left so the Tigers will have flexibility to sign their young players.

just saying there are teams that have alot more money to throw around than the tigers. i agree that the tigers beat the yanks but player for player the yanks have a better team on paper..they always have the best team on paper
