The Yankees don't have the pitching Detroit has, and Detroit has plenty of pieces to put around A-rod. They have Granderson and Polanco to bat ahead of A-rod, Magglio, Sheffield and Guillen to bat behind A-rod. That's a pretty stacked lineup. Hell with Casey and without Renteria the Tigers finsished 3rd in MLB in offense. In 2006 their pitching staff was the best in baseball, and most of it is still intact. He has been absolutely pathetic in the playoffs.

[QUOTE="iceteebone, post: 3461839, member: 549344"] Why does it not matter who owns the team? That is the one cutting the checks LOL. Illitch was a Tigers minor leaguer. He is getting up in age and has said repeatedly he wants nothing more then to see the Tigers win. He made the same commitment to the Red Wings and turned a franchise going nowhere into a near dynasty. The Tigers payroll is only 20 million from being the 3rd highest. Subtract Casey's 4 million, add Renteria's 9 million, and Guillen's 7 million increase and the team payroll is at 107 million, only 9 million behind the Mets. Also if the Yankees were so much better then Detroit's current roster, why did they get pwnd by Detroit in the playoffs? They have Granderson and Polanco to bat ahead of A-rod, Magglio, Sheffield and Guillen to bat behind A-rod. That's a pretty stacked lineup.
