** The Mixed Martial Arts Thread**

Remember the Gracie days?
I do, thats the days I competed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif we have 3 gracie schools here, they aint as badass as they portray themselves. A couple can graple, the rest are mediocre at best.

i kickbox, and i can whoop all your ***** :p haha but in all seriousness, i think kickboxing is awesome. it's the base of a lot of MMA fighting styles. i think all the submission stuff is BS. it doesn't matter how strong or trained you are, if i am chocking you, you are going to give up. yeah, you can argue that you wouldn't be able to pull off the submission hold without the training, but i think it's weak. pride fighting is sweet too, a lot of action.
speaking of action, who wants to watch two dudes put each other in weird submission holds? thats what the WWE is for. everyone likes a good bang em up, head to head fist fight. thats why muai thai is better, and thats why i win //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

and if you are at a DMX afterparty, muai thai will own all. a lotta inside (elbows and knees) and outside (jabs and kicks) moves. when i was learning elbows, my instructor used a bar fight as an example. it's good stuff, and i am not talking about that aerobic kickboxing crap. muai thai all the way.
what does chocking someone mean? whats a DMX afterparty? you've been to the rapper, DMX's, afterparty??? and a lot of fights break out there or something??

dvds are the best way to go as far as training yourself. but really it still ain't gon' work for you. why?? how do you know you're doin the techniques right? how do you know when you're not applying enough pressure, or how not to panic in a 1on 1 fight or when somebodies jumpin you?? are you doin the techniques fast enough? are you movin the right way?? you need an objective opinion/partener to gauge how your doin. but thats allllllllllllllllllllllllll my opinion, maybe somebody else can answer who actually studies;)

Pat, I've been into muay thai for four years now, and I can tell you first hand that what you said about submission is complete bullshit. Go find a brazilian jiujitsu fighter, and if you can stay on your feet, you'll win. However, the MOMENT he takes you down, you have lost the fight. Simple as that. That's kinda like saying that your Audi is a greater car than a land rover because it is better on the road, even though the land rover is made for the rough.

Go to class, reading a book won't teach you anything unless you have someone to practice on //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

hahahaahhaaaha, he can practice choke holds on his__________!!!!

other than that, at the end of ultimate fighter 3, i think ortiz is gonna jump in shamrocks ***

i'm sick of seein bas rutten ads saying he's the worlds greatest martial artist. i would looooooooooooooooooooooooooooove to see him get into the octogon a few more times; he's still in phenomenal shape

*Insert Kip from Napolean Dynamite voice here* "Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I'm training to be a cage fighter."
Sorry had to do it.
where have I seen that before //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

I will post my opinions at a later date. Too busy right now.

dude, i am not saying that submissions are BS like they are weak or something. i just think that they don't really belong in martial arts fights. yeah, bjj is pretty BA, but it just isn't for me. and yeah, i am sure that i would get my *** kicked in a fight with someone that is a good submissioner (i think i just made that word up)

i personally think that submissions are just an easy way to win a fight. not all fights have to end in a KO, but giving up isn't something that i like to see when i pay money to watch something like UFC. and sometimes, submissions are interesting. they definately add an element of difficulty to fight against. i guess my whole beef with them is the giving up thing. it's just boring to see someone give up and walk away after that.

How old are you? Nothing implied, just an honest question.
