My first ever install was 8g wire hooked up to a Directed 400 back in '99 or so, not being happy with that I changed amps to an MTX2300x and kept the 8g wire with 80a fuse under the hood. Originally I blew the amp by accidentally hitting the power wire to the ground block *lol*. When MTX sent me back the amp the gain was reset and it actually maxed out at about 2 o'clock on the dial, so being a n00bix cub3 i turned it to just a hare over half thinking it was "half gain" but in reality it was about 95% lol. Well I was thinking about going to a usac show in NH one day and I popped my hood to show a buddy my ish and this is what I found. Apparently 8g + MTX2300x @ nearly full tilt lets call it 900w to be conservative + 80a glass fuse =
strangely enough the fuse held up but I can only assume that my t-bird was about to turn into a ball of fire from this //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif
so, to all you people out there asking about wire size, too much is never enough //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif but too little can really make for a bad day //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif
I promptly upgraded to 4g thus alleviating the problem.
