the lanzar thread

I was reading a car audio magazine. I know there is some controversy surrounding the quality of lanzar amps but I am here to discuss my findings:

In the magazine they had a manufacterors list. On this list I happened to notice that

Legacy

Pyle

Pyramid

AND Lanzar are all situated at the identical address/phone number. It stands to reason that the same company produces these different brands. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/idea.gif.5acb6a39a9b92425414c316dda202bad.gif

Sorry if this was already brought up.

yeah ziggy owns all that stuff and then some more on top of that. Its a pain in the *** cause they take a good brand (like old school lanzar) drop the prices and then you go to get a bad *** amp and it blows cat balls. Just like when it went from optidrive to vibe. They do have some companies tha im not gonna mention that they didnt totally **** up by buying the company and then letting it run as it was withthe same design and engineering team and so forth rather than just a bunch of shitty pyramid stuff running under a once respected brand name. The Pyle plants like twenty minutes from here. They used to have cool stuff (when i was like fifteen) pyle pounders and stuff were bad ***** then they went all to shit. 900watt 6x9's should give you an idea that someones ****ing up.

Yup- all the same place.

Pyramid makes decent power supply's.

Pyle- IMHO- still makes a decent speaker. - (In a sort of a Rat Engine of Speakers way)

Lanzar has had problems within thier past, however, they appear to have corrected them.

I have had issues with Lanzar before that lead me to stop buying and reccomending them all together. Then, I came into a Vibe 258 at a very nice price and decided to give them another chance.

This was near 6 months ago.

Then second chance was worth it.

take it easy,

Has anyone tried the new Pyle Eternal series stuff. I noticed that the company is spending a fortune in advertizing it. Every car audio mag I pick up has and ad.

I see no one gave any props to Legacy, so I'll say "Legacy looks cool //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif "

I've had no problems with my 1500D. Granted it's a little bit over rated but its supposedly the same boards as the 1200D. The 1200D is a respected amp for the most part from what i've seen. But it all matters if someone likes it then to them it is not a bad brand. Granted I want to upgrade to a kicker 1200.1 or 1250.1 but my 1500D is still putting out a respectable amount of watts. For the price I believe it was a good buy. Also think of a rampage cd player. Rampage is made by audiovox correct? Most people would say that rampage is junk but on the other hand audiovox is a respected company. It all boils down to if one person dosn't like it then it dosn't make it a shitty brand. What about those two thump subs that put up over 140DBs. Now from what the majority of people say is that thump is junk. I used to think so also. You take a so called junk brand, put a decent install on it, and then all the sudden you got nice equipment. I guess there are many factors to argue but I believe something isn't junk because one person dosn't like it or wants to spend 3000 bucks on a name.

Lanzar Optidrives are still the real deal. The prices you can get ahold of them for off ebay is a complete injustice to the quality of product they are (but I'm not complaining).

Having used a Vibe 230 (installed another), a vibe 430, a Vibe 1200D, and Optidrives 200.2 and 1000.1D -- IMO you get exactly what's advertised. Vibe's are pretty decent amps - in the ballpark on ratings with adequate controls. Optidrives are rock solid american construction that are way under-rated and will probably outlast the cars you put them in.

There are several other lines of Lanzar amps like Viberant, VHC, OptiSL...they all seem "ok" at worst, and I've heard the VHC's are serious powerhouses. Can't forget the Racks - they seem to be making a name as some of the best cheap sub amps you can get.

Speakers - I'm not sure - I'm using a set of 6.5 cadmium componets and as much as I'd like to say they sound awesome -- I think I'd be lying if I did. Some of it can probably be blamed on my installation, but again, for $80 shipped it's hard to complain.

Did the Cadmiums come with the ceramic dome tweeters? If so how do the ceramic cones compare to other materials such as silk or metal?
No, the woofers are ceramic - tweets are titanium. All I can say at this point is that I'm satisfied. Logically I'd say the woofers aren't very efficient being that they're rated at 180rms and everytime I get up near full volume I can't help but wonder how much better they would sound with 80 more watts or so (I'm using the Opti 200.2 to run them - 100x2 somewhat under rated).

I've found that if I set the x/o and parametric eq the way I like them at lower volumes I get a lot of distortion at higher volumes. But if I set it up at a high volume I can't get the mid-bass I'd like to be getting from them.

So, basically - they're ok.

But hey, I'm on a budget, and for $900 I don't think I could do a whole lot better, so I'm happy.

I think the big issue with the newer cheaper stuff is that it was they went from an opti drive 500 beating the living shit out of you to their new series that sucked in comparison but claimed the same wattage outouts perhaps mostly due to the fact it wasnt so underrated any more. thats how we all percieved it. you go from a really expensive 500 watt amp to the new cheaper model and it sucks in comparison. but then again my friends are all big spl freaks and their shit is sickening it makes your throat dry up and feels liek you gotta puke and shit. which i think is kinda cool. butwhat do i know. i have been out of the game four like 4-5 years.

i have a vibe1200d and have never had any problems with it. great amp for the most part; kinda ugly though. its that red and yellow vibe badge in the middle; totally kills the whole black and gold look. kinda want to crack it off but scared it will leave marks and look worse. vibe1200d=1500d? i just noticed that; exactly same stats but different shell. oh but that 1500d does look much better... anyone in the bay area want to trade?
