The JL subs of yesterday

I'm preparing to buy a Jl 12W3V2D4 shortly and have a few questions regarding JL's current products. First, do these subs still use the good old foam material for thier surrounds or has JL learned about butyl rubber? Haha.... seriously.

I had a pair of 12W6's that I bought back in 1999. I had a nice setup till it became too much and I sold it off piece by piece. Anywho. I looked at today's W6's and they appear to be a much different sub then those I remember: more powerful and much more expensive. The specs of this W3 I'm about to buy are closer to those W6's I had 6 years ago, with a similar price class and power handling.

Does anyone have any insight on this observation of mine?
