yea higher box tuning is for spl.... ure not going to get the lows cuz alot is going to be below tuning of the box.... but if u want to compete tune to 40-45hz and keep a 50hz test tone with ya....ull be set...

youll want to tune 5-7hz below the resonant frequency, which is like mentioned above 40-70hz usually.

to get the best score possible you dont really tune to a certain frequency (if using earo ports) you tune to around where you guess it would peak but lower like 10 hertz and test and cut an inch off and test and cut an inch off the port and repeat till your score peaks. some cars/trucks might like 44 hertz while some might like 75 hertz bigger cars in the lower classes like lower notes like my explorer likes anywerhe from 48-50 hertz while some crx's like 55-65 hertz or so. just depends on the vehicle. tunning higher doesnt mean you will get louder. theirs a limit to everything.

also if you dont have a mic to test with then just ask a couple of people who do or might know and then try tunning around their.

but every setup will like different things as you change subs amps boxes.

If you've got the same sub with the same cone area moving the same excursion, you're gonna move 2x as much air swingin' 40hz as you would 20hz.

tuning higher will result in higher spl scores

but with this tuning, you will miss out on those low bass frequencies.

Just a side note, but a lot of people say lower tuning 'sounds' louder to the ear.

So you wont lose much by tuning lower unless you plan on competing. It's still gonna be loud by normal standards.
