The extensive musical taste thread.

Yay.
As much as I try to always be logical and sensical, sometimes I just let go and do whatever the hell I want, kind of like this thread, and when that happens I kind of feel guilty for having him in my sig.

But yeah, I like your idea. Post up some sweet music. By the way, I didn't listen to any of the youtube stuff until people were talking about the one you posted, so I listened to it. I very rarely listen to the big electronic genres, house trance techno, but that was a pretty cool little track there. What sub-genres/genres/artists are you into, electronic-wise?

PS - your idea for this thread is better than anything I had thought of. Just post up some random obscure *** shit for us to listen to, and we can see if anyone likes it. Dont post boring *** shit that we have all heard before, though.
I'm definitely a house head. I can tolerate most of the other electronic genres but I can't handle that cheesy nonsense. Even the more mainstream house retains that dark style: http://download.yousendit.com/B0341E7F1EB9460A

Ok, here's another one:

This group is pretty straight ambient techno. Their album is one of my favorites so far from 2007. Much easier to like than the last link I posted.

My favorite song isn't on their myspace, so just listen to the song that loads automatically, it is really good. Nocture or Sleepwalk are also great, or whatever else they have up there for an idea, they should all be good.

it reminds me a lot of radiohead or postal service to be honest with you. In the sense of effects, not really the music pur-say.
That is actually a keen sense you have there, and I will tell you why.

The man who does the electronic programming portion of Postal Service is actually the single member of his own group, Dntel. Dntel just happens to be one of the biggest artists in the "glitch" sub-genre, as it's called. His album, Life is Full of Possibilities, is really good. The new one sucks.

Anyway, Fennesz is closely related to glitch. In fact, he is often referred to as "experimental glitch".

So right on with that observation.

Alright dudes, see if you can handle this: (Hundreth, I want to see if you like this)

Experimental ambient at it's very best. If you think you can handle 8 minutes of it, listen to the track Endless Summer. If you want to puss out, listen to Chateau Rouge.

If you don't like it, I will be unsurprised. If you like it, you are a ****ing badass and have some serious potential as far as I'm concerned.
The production work seems really good, but it seems too much of an acquired taste for me. Ambient doesn't normally work too well for me because I need a beat or something I can tap my feet to.

I'll listen to that link shortly.

By the way, I just realized that you are the dude with "the sig". I'm always thinking about that shit. It's so true. Except that my headphones cost $250, not $20, lol.

this is a fun thread but is pointed in one direction which im not going to ***** or say whos to say what is good. im not even going to get into what i like because its useless but i will say that the music i really like is based on there live performance. alot of ppl can make a decent album in studio with alot of work done to it but cant play a lick live, and ive found this to be very true. so again live>studio

I'm guessing you listened to Chateau Rouge? Yes, most of Fennesz' work is true ambient in that it has no beat. "Endless Summer" does have a rhythmn though, if not necessarily a "beat", so you might like that a little bit more. Maybe.

And yes, it is an acquired taste. If you had thrown Fennesz at me 5 years ago I would have stared at you with a blank expression most likely.

I have kelly clarkson as my ringtone.

my top five faves are:

1. Metal

2. Underground Rap

3. Jazz

4. Industrial

5. Funk

ALL types of music has good sounding stuff, which is why my music collection is so diverse. just have to wade through most of the crap to get to the gold. this goes with all genres, except pop-punk/emo (ala yellow card or saves the day) and alternative christian music. I despise both genres.

now this is what I'm talking about. Very very ambient, very melodic. I like how the main tempo in let there be light is calm and relaxing were as the loop of the synthesizer is faster but keeps in touch with the original beat. This is an awesome find dude.

A good amount of the music I listen to either cannot be reproduced live at all, or it can but sounds completely different than on record.

A lot of my friends are like that, with live music and all, and the bands they like. I think it is a pretty common standard that people have. Nothing wrong with it, but personally I don't give a flying fack what they sound like live. Most shit I listen to they don't even tour.

Hey Hundreth, I liked that YSI, much more in the instrumental parts though. Not sure where you are getting the dark part though, it sounded light enough to me, but then again I listen to some pretty ****ing dark music so my standards are probably out of whack. Wasn't fond of the vocals at all. Otherwise, good.

This is considered House music? See, Trance I know for sure, and apparently House as well, is something I can listen to literally for hours and hours non-stop. I used to listen to the Digitally Imported radio endlessly, when I was on my computer with no music.

One thing I really like about this type of genre is that it seems kind of amorphous. Not sure if that is the right word, but what I mean is that many different artists have quality material, and it doesn't really degrade by going into the more obscure stuff. You can just listen to an endless mix, like the DI radio, and almost none of it is bad. It also means you don't have to spend a ton of time researching and figuring out who sounds like who just to find stuff you like.
