I've been following our debate on the death penalty, and I was wondering what you guys seriously think about it.

I think that this is an "easier" debate than the abortion debate because we don't have to draw a line between life and non-life.

I don't agree with the death penalty. Killing someone is not a decision that we can make. A life has value, no matter how heinous the acts the person has committed.

I agree that from a self-focused point of view, the death penalty works. It removes people that would be likely contribute little to society and also cost us alot of tax dollars.

The part that worries me about this sort of philosophy is that their might be an innocent man in the mix.

I have always been a firm believer that the death penalty is not FOR US to decide. I'm not an avid church follower but I still believe that we are not the ones who should decide whether a person should live or die. I think it's wrong and have always stood by saying, "it's wrong."

I voted no. Pretty much for the reason that you stated as it's positives. Also, I think it is a lot easier to justify it morally when you take into account that this person knew that what they were doing was so wrong to the extent that they could be killed for it and that the death penalty provides a means of never allowing this person to commit the crime again.

i say we expand the death penalty to include jaywalkers and people who drive without car insurance. ohh...and george bush, since he is responsible for all of americas problems.

That's pretty much my view. Also about being innocent, I would rather get the death penalty than spend my life in prison, not that I ever plan to get myself into a position where I had to make that choice.

I have a hard time NOT being for the death penalty. I mean, if someone is a serial killer, what do you do with them?

Put them in a cell for life. The prisons are overpopulated as it is. I honestly think we let people sit around in the prisons on death row for far too long.

That's fine and all but we still should not be the ones to decide if they live or die. Yes it's horrible that there are people on this earth who are capable of doing horrendous and un-excusable things but I still feel we don't need to decide. Let them live the rest of the years on this earth staring at a wall and remembering why they are there. Once they die they will get all the punishment they deserve but it shouldn't be by OUR HANDS.
