The BIG-3

What is the Big-3 upgrade? I hear a lot of people refering to it.

Big 3 wires....

alt -> battery +

battery ground -> engine block

engine block -> frame ?

This is NOT replacing wires, just adding new ones.

Along with doing the big 3, adding a HO alt and good battery will be very very beneficial
