Texas Polygamist Children Taken without Merit

I'm sorry, but those people are fucked in the head.

It's a giant cult.

Did it give the government the right to take the kids away? Probably not, but one cannot deny that the parents don't brainwash their kids and don't give them the ability to make their own choices.

And any other way of life isn't?

What makes polygamy worse than monogamy?

So...is that so wrong? The women where there willingly.
Yup. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I just feel that they don't give people choices to do what they want, especially the children.

Have you seen any of the interviews that they do? Those people are completely whacked out. I was watching larry king and he was asking some legitimate questions and all they would say back is "we want our children back" over and over. It was scary.

Plus there have been numerous accounts of people who used to be affiliated with the sect/cult/whatever saying that instances of underage motherhood/****** abuse/****** have occured.

Honestly, I don't see this as any different than, say, fundamentalist Christians in the US. Yet the fundamentalists are permitted to do as they please...even praised by some.

Whether they are crazy or not, they still have their rights. If the State of Texas were able to demonstrate that these children had been harmed by being raised in a polygamist "cult" (as you worded it), I would have agreed 100% with taking the children. But they couldn't....

True, they had no physical evidence to legally take away the children. However, there have been many accusations by former members stating that such things have occured in the past.

Do I agree with the government taking the children with no just cause? Absolutely not, but I'll be d*mned if those aren't some crazy *** people. In all honesty, I don't think they are in the right frame of mind to be having/raising children.

I'm not familiar with the fundamentalist religion, so you'll have to excuse my ignorance, but isn't polygamy against the law in the U.S.? Afterall, thats what the YFZ people were practicing. It has to give the government at least SOME reason to believe that other illegal activities may be going on.

There is a wide variety of people that one may consider crazy. I consider those who follow "pro" wrestling to be off as well.
True, tons of crazies out there.

But most of them don't brainwash young minds into believing the same stuff as them, nor not letting them make their own choices on what they want to believe in.

The United States does not legally permit marriage to more than one person. The primary reason for this is because it violates the sanctity of marriage. It is the same religious zealots that prevent gay and lesbian couples from marrying. The ironic thing is that they will let people of non-Christian denominations (even Atheists) marry without a question.

You need to define "brainwash". The nature of the human mind is that we learn from someone or something else....an external source. If you grow up in a house where the family practices any religion and involves their children in it, they are being "brainwashed". The same can be said for political views, racial opinions, etc. Every person can change their mind later down the road if they please, including children born into polygamist groups.

Regardless, it is still breaking the law. It probably at least gave the government a reason to investigate the YFZ ranch further.

It didn't give them the right to take away all the children though

It should have given the government a reason to review their constitution and try to understand why it discriminates some groups and does not serve all people equally.
