Texas Polygamist Children Taken without Merit

You need to define "brainwash". The nature of the human mind is that we learn from someone or something else....an external source. If you grow up in a house where the family practices any religion and involves their children in it, they are being "brainwashed". The same can be said for political views, racial opinions, etc. Every person can change their mind later down the road if they please, including children born into polygamist groups.
Well now we are just getting down to definitions.

I consider brainwashing to be something that takes away a person's free will. Sure most of those women were there by choice, but the children aren't given a choice to be there or not. Then again, children usually don't have a choice over those things anyways.

I had to go to church as a child, but eventually I was allowed to not go because I didn't want to anymore. I felt that church was a waste of time. If I wanted to be religious, I could do it whenever and wherever I wanted to.

If the children have the ability to leave later on down the road when they are able to, then there really isn't anything wrong with that I guess.

So...is that so wrong? The women where there willingly.
Man, have you ever seen or read anything about cults, and cult leaders. They may be crazy as loons, but they are very smart. Your average person wouldn't listen to their garbage, and join a cult. They search around for weak, people that are easily manipulated. So sure, the people join by choise, but it's a manipulated, choice. It doesn't make it alright for them to be there. For all anyone knows this was like any other cult, and they were going to start stocking up on weapons soon, and we would have another Waco incident.

There is a point where the government has to step in and defend the people that can't defend themselves.

True, tons of crazies out there.
But most of them don't brainwash young minds into believing the same stuff as them, nor not letting them make their own choices on what they want to believe in.
I live in the Bible Belt...children are force-fed christianity until they are teenagers.

I consider America's nationalism somewhat cultish...in the definition of a cult. Most every organization in which I am familiar survives by providing where the members are weak. Street gangs provide a sense of family, chruches provide a sense of spirituality. What I find odd is that you think your "brand" is so much better than any other brand.

I found nothing that indicated they were stockpiling weapons.

Not all parents around here allow their kids to do that.
But the parents also can't watch them 24/7. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

There's school, school activities, etc. and so forth.

Unless the parents keep them locked up in the house all day and they are stay-at-home parents.

At least the children have SOME freedom, be it short-lived.

Sounds like it's gonna be party time back at the ranch!!

There some folks in the news that chained their kids to the bed. I would call that cruelty. What these children go through is definitely not cruelty.

I would definitely agree with you on that one.

If the polygamist children can leave, then there's no harm in that. As long as the rumors about abuse/****** abuse/etc. aren't true.

Well, I am not sure about "leaving". I am not sure at what age should children come and go as they please.

I agree with the appellate court. The state can not just sweep up all the children without cause.

I do believe the state was acting with good intentions, however, if the courts would allow this to happen; the end results could be devastating to innocent families in the future.

You have to remember, the appellate court is not just looking at this case, but the future implications that it could have; that's their main job.

I wouldn't be surprised if Texas will move forward on an individual basis seeing as many of the children showed signs of physical and ****** abuse.

It depends: signs of physical abuse? Underage pregnancy at the hands of an elder?

There were a lot of illegal things going on there, Texas just got a little gung ho.
