Test Subwoofer?

I just recently received my hifonics bxi1206d, and installed it with my alpine type r. When I first powered it up the sub very very faintly moved, producing almost no vibrations. The settings on the amp were all fine, all at the 12 o'clock position.

Then I rewired the sub, and now it seems like it's working a little better, but I think something might be wrong with it.

Is there a good way to check? Like a song that has a bunch of frequencies or something?

put a dmm on the sub and see if the coils read properly, and then check a wiring diagram and see if your wiring it properly for the right load or w/e
What's a dmm? BTW, the actual name of the sub is Alpine SWR-1242D.

Right now I have it wired like this:

Should I switch it to this?:

I am assuming due to the model number of the woofer that it is a dual 2ohm, thus you should wire it by the second method to achieve a 1ohm load to your amplifier.

Do you have sufficient size power cable for the amp. Read up on the gain setting tutorial or visit JL's website and go through theirs. It will save your equipment and your wallet.

savings of the wallet FTW

Also, if its a dual 2 or dual 4 the amp will be able to handle either load, seeing as you would achieve either 1ohm or 2ohm using the bottom wiring method. So that is the way you should wire it regardless of the woofers actual config since the type r's come in either dual 2 or 4.

Also, you dont want all your settings at 12 o' clock. Read the gain setting tutorial and learn up a bit so you know what your doing.

Another thing.....is it the newer model type r or older model? The newer one will be safe off 1,000wrms daily, however the older model will burn up in a new york minute off that power.

I bought the sub about a year ago, maybe even less. I mean it looks exactly like this: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_4281_Alpine+SWR-1242D+-TYPE+R-.html#
It will handle all the power your hifonics will be able to throw at it then, the hifonics are slightly over-rated by a couple hundred watts.....so.....with the proper electical system and proper enclosure that sucker should wang //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/peace.gif.2db28b618ed8d1964ebbe2f5021d2c39.gif
