tempest vs. CVR

lookin for a nice 15" for cheap. what sub would do best in a ported box with ~600 watts goin to it? mainly sq/ but i want the sub to get loud.

If it's 600 watts at 4 ohms, the tempest is your sub.

does the ohm load matter how loud it would be...say if i had 600watts at 2 ohms or 600watts at 4 ohms. i know an amplifier would be more "reliable" at 4 ohms, but does the ohm load affect the subwoofers output?

yes, you need to match the ohm load to the lowest maximum that your amp can handle...lower impedance = less work for the amp, generally more power.

I'd definitely take the Tempest. It's an excellent subwoofer and would definitely work very well with that power.

If you have 600w @ 4 ohms, and a decent amount of space, then definitely the Tempest. If you have 600w @ 2 ohms (assuming you buy a 4 ohm DVC CVR), and less space, get the Kicker.

My friends got a tempest, it needs a pretty big box if you go ported. It will outdisplace the CVR and sound better as well. Depending on what impedance your amp puts out that power, how much space you can gather up,

Either choice IMHO will do an awesome job, and sound very nice. Just listen to each and let your ears decide.

i have one temepst 15 running at the momnet and it sounds it's best IMO with a 4 cube box tuned low and 600 watts is way to much power for 1 temepst

400 watts is the most i would give 1 temepst I have a hifonics 1500 @ 4ohms right now which is 500 watts and i have to be real careful

but with one temepst it gets pretty loud and is enough to see body swell on the roof back windows and doors of my dakota

the SQ is of the best i have ever ownwed hands down and i have owned kicker jl and others

no other sub IMO comes close for the money if you got the room do it with a small amp and be happy
