Tech Thread -- Basic (Advanced?) Discussion of Power, Electricity

Charge = amount of positive or negative electricity deposited on a particle.

Current = the movement of charge.

Current is caused by the movement of negatively-charged particles towards positively-charged particles.

Electromagnetic field through a wire is determined with the right hand rule: with your hand wrapped around a wire and the thumb pointed in the direction of the current the fingers point towards the direction of the electromagnetic field around the wire.

That is not true. Average and RMS values are different, and each does exist.
Average refers to the point in the sine wav where it's 63.7% of the peak (not peak to peak) voltage. This value is figured by taking many points on the sine wav and finding the average - hence the "average" value.

RMS (Root Mean Square) refers to the point that would be equivilent to the amount of work DC voltage and current could do. RMS is said to be 70.7% of the peak value.
I believe he was referring to the term "RMS power", not RMS in general.

Which he is correct in stating.

RMS Power is a misnomer.
