TC Sounds recone on my RE Destroyer (PICS!)

I went with TC for the fact that I wanted to try their equipment because I read a lot of good things about them and because they are so close to my house. It's much easier to be able to drive to shop then having to wait weeks for packages to come to my house. And I don't have to pay for shipping! The sub isn't really working out too well right now. It sucks but it's not the end of the world. I was hoping it turned out like that converted 18" MT, but I guess the Destroyer motor isn't as compatible with TC's parts unfortunatly.

The sub makes a clacking/slapping noise at around 35 to 50 hz I'd say. Almost like something is hitting on something repeatly, but I don't know what. If I free air the sub to full excursion on a low tone, like 15- 20 hz, it doesn't make the sound.

I know my amp wasn't cliping because when I was running the loner TC 3hp sub it never made a weird sound. I had my 2500d set to push 1500 watts to the 3hp and it pounded and never broke a sweat. I left the gain on teh amp set to 1500 and hooked up the Destroyer. I played a song for about 45 seconds at full volume and had to cut it off because smoke was pouring out of the ports.

I'm not sure what has to be done to fix this, but Thilo and Kyle are 2 VERY knowledgable people and I have faith that they will come up with a solution to this. So stay posted //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
sux your problems with the sub it still lookslike a beast though

Glad that you like it, but i'd have to have it redone by RE. It worked just fine, before when there were no shorting rings in the motor, so why not now, im not entirely sure. I do though, have to say that i respect the business ethics of Kyle @ TC for coming on here, and stating his dissatisfaction with the whole thing.
So it's cool if I do a half-assed job on someone's speaker and still charge them for it? Yea... thats awesome. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I dont think the cone was the issue, but who knows, maybe you're right!

Dude it snapped

The glue joint didnt fail on the cone/surround connection, the aluminum failed at the edge of it.

Aluminum becomes VERY malluable...after moving as many times as that woofer does...and using the big spiders allows it to move MUCH more...builds up tons of heat and starts to stress until it cracks...and rips...which it obviously did //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I cant believe those cones havent buckeled yet...every one i've ever fiddled with in a really high excursion application always ended up with some nasty dents in it...where the surround reached its limits and started pulling backwards....the only one i havent had do it was the storm...

lol, no. thats not what i was getting at. Kyle messed up, but held his sack on the table to get smashed in by coming on here, and posting that. I think TC should ship it to Vegas for a recone, and pay for everything to be honest.

im gonna have to agree on this one.

Dave reconed my 3HP (that wasnt blown, but the cone ripped on it) without a problem, and it took all of 3 hours. I burned it up, and he didnt it again, and had it back at my door 5 days after i sent it out.

okay, you probably saved a few bucks going this route.........

Way to go!

Edited section add on to last post: After reading this a few hours later a person brought up something that totally slipped my mind and shouldn't have. This all relates to the Fatigue life of the aluminum...over time, it will fatigue and it will break, this one just happened to break really quickly //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif...grab ahold of a pop can cut the ends off of it and take the inside of it and see how many times you can 'stress' it, and then go exactly the opposite way you just stressed it, and repeat....see how many times it takes before it breaks.

Thank you again, that problem was address and fixed after the first recone. It was not the major problem.

Defenitely agree here, unless they can stop it from making the noises.
