I have finally put enough power to my sub and noticed the cone has one of those infamous "Cone Hickeys". I have heard about them before but never really put the screws to it and now that I have I have noticed it. It really isn't all that bad and if I didn't rub my hand across it to test the temperature I would never have known it was there. My question is, does this mean my sub is on its way out? I plays and sounds awesome. I have heard somewhere that because it is a Ti cone that particular spot becomes stronger and it won't happen again? Also just so you know I never once bumped the back plate with the cone and never use any bass boost or such to elongate the waveform. Now I can say I did power it with two SAZ 3000D's on a 16V system, 1.33ohm... Sounded fricken great, I love this sub... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Polo..

i have no clue what your talking about....
but i've definately owned a few of those woofers.

Then you haven't put enough power to them yet! If you put enough to them the cone will eventually get a round deformity right behind where the coil is glued to the cone. This is from the shear power of the 4hp and the weakness of the cone. I have two SAZ-3000D's (16V system @ 1.33 ohm) strapped to it, sounds awesome..//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

BTW- I am a fan of a single sub system.

Ya but you have to hit the back plate in order to get it, not even when I tore the spiders outta my first one lOl. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Polo..

Is it like a perfect circle? or kinda rigid? Is this spot bumped in or out? Maybe it's just too much air buildup, where as a conventional woofer would just blow the cap off.

I would assume if it smacked the back plate hard enough to smash the former into the cone a glue joint somewhere would be junk and the sub would have already failed. But even then just from a woofer bottoming out I don't see how it would cause this on the front of the cone as any pressure from the impact is on the opposing side.

This was the end result of one of mine //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

You can crunch the cone by bottoming out also. The 4hp is a pretty powerful motor so much inertial energy is built up and with enough power if the coil was to bottom out the moving mass of the cone would folder over the former thus causing the imprint. You can't mistaken a bottoming out it makes a decently loud door knocker sound and the end usually crushes in onto the pole piece and locking up, usually. I like the 4hp because it usually requires a small enclosure and I really don't want to switch right now. If I was to get it reconed is there a cone out there to stand up to the abuse? I was looking into a DD composite cone but in know way was I welcomed with open arms. I don't know what the big deal is over a cone/surround... ANy input is welcom...

Polo..
