I'm nearly 23 and finally decided on what tattoo I want and what artist I want to do it.

Take your time, ask around, look at sample works, and then decide. You don't want to find a bum artist that screws up the colors and doesn't go deep enough with the tat.

New ink I got about 2 months ago.

The symbolism holds great significance to myself and my family... (more than just in a religious context). I've wanted this for about 3-4 years and finally found the right image and right person to get it done.

I'm also really happy with the quality of work and don't feel like it was done by "an untalented artist who could't get a real job"

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not (although I think you are) ... but really in this case originality isn't the point.

Like I said, there's a very big significance to THIS specific drawing so that's why I got it.

(yes, there are a lot of different drawings that depict praying hands but THIS one is significant for a reason)

i come up with an idea then wait on it for 6 months to a year..most of the time i lose interest in them and realize i would be an idiot to get certain ones i come up with.. go to a shop, look through some portfolios, find an artist you like. then talk it over with them. usually a good artist can help you out with it..then go home and think about it for 6 months. trust me on this one
