I was pulled over a year ago and got a ticket for not having insurance (was expired) . Ticket was like $270. I didn't pay it in time (was a broke *** student) and it escalated to $500. which I paid as soon as i got a job.

But then there's a call saying that " ok you paid 500, now you gotta pay Surcharge fees ($760). You have an option paying it right away or monthly ($35).

im like wtf i paid everything and they told me if i want to dispute this i gotta call Austin, TX DMV. I tried calling maybe ....1000 times. Either its busy or no one replies.

I already made like 3 payments.

And now dont know what to do.

Suggestions?

you already started payment plans, i doubt they will do anything in court then
no i had to pay coz if u don pay right away and chose to pay monthly then u have to pay by 10th of each months and if u miss 1 payment then there's warrant for your arrest.

If you already made some payments your probably obligated.Had you not paid you might have been able to dispute it.Don't know though could be some sort of filing error and you might get lucky if you dispute it.
But what is this surcharge payments anyway?

who did i pay 500 to?

and who wants that 760 now?

Fight it, I had the same thing happen when I was 18/19. Had a $350 ticket and had to setup monthly payments. Two weeks after the 2nd payment was sent and cashed they came to my door with a warrent. I told the officer I had made the payment and was about to send in the 3rd and final. She told me to just show up at the court date with the proof that I paid and nothin would happen.

I did, they waived the final payment cause of it....Some dumbass there submitted my payment to someone elses tickets.

just go to the DMV instead of trying to call.

keep making your payments so they don't put out a warrant on you but fight it. Include the extra money in your case so you get it back. Tell the judge you made the extra payments because they told you if you didn't pay they would arrest you. You paid the full amount of the first ticket and would your money refunded for this second ticket that you have no idea where it came from. make sure the second one doesn't leave any points on your drivers license either, if it does ask for them to be removed.
