Hey guys and gals. I'm new here and a novice when it comes to car audio. I have a 99 Buick Regal with the Monsoon sound system. I blew up the stock 6x9s and I'd like to upgrade the entire system (sans radio) instead of replacing the 6x9s. I listen to mostly rock (Metallica, Three Days Grace, Green Day, AC/DC, stuff like that)
For those who don't know the Monsoon system, it is a 2 ohm system with a small 260 watt amp in the trunk powering 8 speakers. It has 5.25 woofers with seperate tweeters up front and 6x9 "subs" and 4" midrages in the rear. It sounded decent for a stock system before I dun busted it.
I don't know much about car audio, other than I want a clean full range of sound. I posted on regalgs.org asking about information about upgrading and they steered me here. I have been doing some research on both forums and I think I have managed to put something together that would sound good. Again, I'm not looking for the loudest system but something that will sound great and cleaner than stock. I'm not looking to spend a whole lot, maybe $300 if I can get away with it.
New Pieces
1) 6.5" comps in the front doors will fit. I already have sound deadener on there. (outer skin and covering holes in the inner) Research here has led me to believe Phoenix Gold RSD 65cs's are well liked among people on a budget.

2) Elemental Designs 7kv.2 Sub in a small sealed box. A member of the RegalGS forum used one of these in a small box hidden under the center console with great results. Would I want Dual 2 or Dual 4 voice coils? Is that Ohms?

3) 3 or 4 channel amp. I don't know how much power I will need, nor which brand of amp I should run or how I should hook it up.
Old Pieces to be Reused
Stock Monsoon Radio (looks good in the car, decent sound even with aftermarket components, less likely to get my window smashed, saves $$)
