Hello all, I've decided that its finally time to set up a system in my car. This will be my first system so im looking for some advice on what to get. My budget is about $1000 and i am looking for a headunit, speakers, and a 4 channel amp. Alittle later on i will add on a sub and a seperate amp for the sub, but for the time being im not looking for either.

Headunit - Pioneer 860mp ( $300) Pretty sure im going to get this one.Looked at a few others but like the features on this the best ( needs to be ipod capable)

Speakers - Would like to have componets up front and some rear fill speakers in the back. At the moment the car has stock bose front door speakers, rear door and rear deck so im thinking just front door and rear door?

- JL XR-650 CSi and JL XR-650 CXi ($200, $145)

- MB Quart PCE216 (($219)

- Diamond Audio S600 ($255)

- Rainbow SLC ( not sure)

- DLS UR6S ( not sure)

Amp- Looking for a 4 channel

- JL 300/4 (300)

looking for other comparable suggestions

I'm using ebay pricing. Going to try and listen to some speakers in the upcoming week but not sure i'll be able to find each set.

So if you guys could help out i would appreciate it, thanks.

Rainbows...... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif ...and ditch the rear rill speakers.

He says ditch the rear fill because of wave properties inside of a vehicle. Many people like the sound of rear fill, but those who care about absolute reproduction have come to learn that rear fill only causes problems.

Ebay has good pricing, but a lot of the times, you can find just as good or better in the classifieds here or on any other reputable car audio forum. Just something ot look into.

Head Unit: The Pioneer you've chosen is certainly a capable performer...no arguments there. But just to pass along an //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif there are heaps of decks in that price bracket that are iPod-capable. As popular as iPods have become, matter of fact, most decks on that level have some form of iPod-compatibility whether it be a simple aux input to having the ability to use a proprietary adapter and control all your iPod functions right from the HU.

I'm not trying to advise that you don't get that Pioneer....just wanting you to be aware that several options exist beyond it.

Out of all the speakers you've listed the only ones I have personally heard are the DAT Hexes....and I must say I think they're pretty outstanding. The others continually garner high praise from those who have experience with them, however, so I don't think any of the choices listed would be a bad thing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

If your proposed budget for a multichannel amp is $300 then by looking around I would suggest you could get more amp than that 300/4. While JL's slash-series amps are certainly rock-solid units the fact that the JL logo is emblazoned on them seemingly automatically makes the price jump somewhat drastically. By way of comparison my four-channel old-school eXcelon amp (75w X 4 @ 4 Ohms, 150w X 4 @ @ ohms, or 300w X 2 mono bridged) ran me less than $100/shipped from eBay. Again...I'm not trying to sway you away from the JL....it's a good amp and would serve you well if you bought it....but on that budget I think your options are considerable. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Good luck getting your system going and remember....we require MANY pictures of the install and a full review of the gear after it's installed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Thanks guys for the initial responses. Main reason i wanted rear fill is because i usually have passengers in the back. My thought is i could buy some componets up front to start out and see if i like it that way, if not i could always buy some rear fill down the road. Better idea?

Also for example if i went with the Rainbow SLC's what rear fill speakers would i go with to reduce the frequency differences between the front and rear? Same speaker?

if rearfill is a must i suggest running the rear speakers of the headunit, and get a 2-channel or bridge your 4-channel on a pair of components up front. lots of amps that will give you the performance of a jl. a kicker kx650.4 can be had in that price range, brand new authorized. for components i vote for the DLS comps //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

just get some coaxils. some 2-ways from cdt, boston acoustics etc.

Alright i think i've finally decided to drop the idea of having rear fill for the mean time and to just grab some componets up front and see how i like it. Saves some money too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Now on the amps again. Researched a few more 4 channel amps( going 4 channel in case i want to add rear fill but for the mean time i'll bridge it) and would like to know your imput on each one.

-Kicker 04KX650.4

-Orion 8004

-MB Quart RAA4200

-Phoenix Gold Xenon X100.4

- JL 300/4

Want to stay in around $300 range, lower of course is preferred. Thanks
